A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my connection was slow and after looking at my line stats I found my attenuation at 38.5 dB instead of the usual 29.5.

TCL suggested that I try another modem, however the only spare I have is an old ADSL1 device. When I tried it, it reported the attenuation as 30 dB, i.e. back to normal.

Does it look like replacing my 2+ modem with a new one will fix my issue, or does an ADSL1 modem calculate attenuation differently?

Edit: Typo

I get different attenuation figures too if I change between ADSL1 & ADSL2+ modulation. Approx 11dB on ADSL1 and 18dB on ADSL2+

Thanks, I borrowed a 2+ modem and have confirmed that my own modem isn't at fault.
