Why does VF's hold music sound like a slighty-out-of-tune FM radio, complete with frequent bursts of static?
That said, Telecom seems to have the same issue - is it deliberate?

sidefx: Aren't landlines also limited to a certain frequency range, so any notes outside that range will be cut out, making most hold music sound like crap anyway?

Yes G.711 only had 8kHz sampling, which is very low compared to modern music.
Wideband VoIP codecs such as G.722 support 16kHz delivers greater bandwidth and clarity.
