freitasm: I am not seeing this problem at home in Johnsonville. But just in case... Fibre! Fibre! It's achievable soon.

I've finally got fibre installed here, 200mbps down, 20mbps and worth the wait - it is everything one could ever hope and dream for. If Buddha was born in the 20th century he would be saying that happiness is found in a fibre connection.

YouTube buffering on 1080p. Only for 1/2 of a second though.

Until the links to Wellington VF speedtest server have been upgraded to handle more capacity, I have decided against speedtests [unless the links have already been upgraded].

I am not seeing problems tonight. Downloaded a game from Steam at 15 MB/s and no stalls while browsing.

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" connection, tested via ethernet direct to modem:

An unusually good night ...

6pm:  100/10Mbps
7pm:  100/10Mbps
8pm:  95/10Mbps
9pm:  90/10Mbps

Normal latency and upstream speeds (unlike last night)

EDIT: Netflix running OK in HD

Careful - people are going to start thinking you are the cause of the peak issues :)

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" connection, tested via ethernet direct to modem:

Sunday - after two "good" nights, the evening downstream speed dip is back:

6pm     95/10
7pm     95/10
8pm     60/10
9pm     67/10
10pm   43/10

Spark servers in Wellington and Auckland gave similar results.

It's really bad tonight. And this is an hour past peak. :(

Fortunately, we actually did get a response back from Vodafone support, and they greatly exceeded my expectations. They reimbursed us quite well, and informed us that a few additional node upgrades are taking place within Island Bay in the immediate future (i.e. the next few weeks, finishing before the holidays).

Yes, sure. Except that if their network can't cope with a few 100 Mbps users...

Let's hope that capacity really will be enhanced, or it will all end in tears ...  surprised

Vodafone definitely seems to be turning the ship around! Between our awesome support experience a few days ago and this announcement, my perception of Vodafone is improving drastically.

Hopefully the network will be able to exceed our likely conservative expectations after gigabit goes live! I've complained for a while about how Vodafone didn't seem to be interested in competing with fibre, but it looks like they may be cashing in well on the cable network soon enough. :)

But what is the upstream on this new gig stuff? That is something that is really bad on vodafone cable at the moment. And my understanding is that with cable there is a very limited amount of it set aside for upstream signals in anycase.
