I'm in Miramar and I stopped following this thread when most of the congestion issues were resolved towards the end of September however of the last week or two my issues appear to be back.

Tonight I'm getting around 20-30Mbps down when I speedtest again the vodafone server.  Is anyone else, particularly in Miramar, having similar?  Is it congestion again?

Thanks in advance.

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" cable, tested via ethernet, 8pm:

(I got similar results from Spark servers and from several Auckland servers)

Peak-period congestion is definitely returning - starting earlier and getting more severe every day.

I think this article explains well why Vodafone got so deep into this: "Sorry, there's no such thing as unlimited data".

In short: lack of capacity planning, actual bandwidth availability, bad management of resources, high expectations setting.

There can be no other explanation other than bad planning and management. To not foresee the significant surge in traffic from streaming TV services you'd have to be so completely out of touch one would question whether those responsible are in the right jobs. Perhaps they got their estimates on streaming TV uptake from Sky, a company who has been equally disconnected from reality.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ... it just keeps getting slower.

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" cable, tested via ethernet:

6pm    75/10
7pm    64/10
8pm    45/10
9pm    17/10

I'm really looking forward to the promised pre-Christmas upgrade.

It happened in September, Island Bay has issues all of its own and seems to require further work. It's usable for the most part, just not what we're paying for.

Thanks for your concern.

So is VF going to offer the rest of us in Island Bay (or indeed everyone who has put up with much less than we paid for for a long time this year) compensation, or do we all have to get on the phone to their call centre (I understand from their mail out that they answer the phones now....)

If people spent as much time on the phone to Vodafone as they did pontificating about compensation in this thread they'd have it by now. Honestly, I'm tired of hearing about it, particularly from people who aren't involved.

If you want compensation, call them and discuss it. If you call early the wait times are minimal.

Why should they? They do not know if you are being negatively affected by congestion or not.

Are you suggesting Vodafone are unable assess which nodes are congested and which are not?

Not sure if you are a cable user and have been affected, but by principal surely you can understand the frustration of us who have and do pay for a service that is at best inconsistent.

Let me ask what good will gesture at all have they shown since they recognised publicly the issues? Only thing I have received is a letter.

Nodes yes, individual users, no. And the extent of the individual impact varies greatly based on their usage.

If you want compensation you have to call them, it's that simple. They way I see it, if it's not worth 15 minutes of someone's time to make the call, it's obviously not a big enough issue to warrant compensation.

I am a cable user in Island Bay, so I'm still affected.

Someone who barely opens Facebook and sends the odd email will not be affected. People who have crap WiFi limiting their speeds also not affected.

If you are bothered by it then make a phone call. They are selling a service as a certain speed its not like dsl with as fast as your line will go.

It does make me wonder what our threshold of acceptable performance will be, once 1Gbps is rolled out. Presumably, all of the backhaul will be dimensioned to make Day 1 be OK - which I'd guess would indeed fix the 100mbps issues.

Would we look at an evening drop to 900mbps and declare it unacceptable - because of the percentage drop - and ignore the fact that it's still nine times what the 100mbps plan delivers at 2am today?
