gbwelly:

ethanbmnz: Is anyone else experiencing internet problems right now? I think it's international stuff that's having issues...

Yeah, I presume it is earthquake related.

True, didn't think of that.

The issues went away after ~15 minutes.

However during the "issues" I noticed that ipv6-test.com said that DNS6 + IP4 was "reachable"... Maybe something went wrong while trialling IPv6 DNS and they [Vodafone] reverted changes made?

Probably some theory of mine that isn't correct.

What the? This thread is about cable congestion issues, nothing to do with VDSL. I suggest you start a new thread with your question.

Now we've got thread congestion issues. Crosstalk by the looks of it.

It's like a retransmission of halatau's 2012 thread on moving off cable.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...

Island Bay cable 100/10 at 8.30pm:

Something strange and wonderful is happening - and no, this image has not been Photoshopped  smile

I'm also getting speeds to Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne in the high 90's during peak hour.

Has the Vodafone Fairy waved her magic wand?

I've been quiet because I've been busy, not because things have been better.

Would be nice to have some more updates. :)

Bandwidth is all over the place at peak hour now. :\

Did a few tests over the course of a handful of the worst peak-hour minutes.

I don't suppose that they meant "holidays 2016" when they gave us an estimate for repairs several months ago?

Actual connection performance is sadly even worse off. YouTube's stats for nerds is frequently reporting 2 Mbps.

How does an ISP even let their "premium" service degrade to this level?!

I am not one to gloat but, yes ok... Snap offered to upgrade my fibre connection to 1Gbps for testing. I am told this is the only (apparently) residential Chorus connection with 1 Gbps in Wellington. It will revert to 200Mbps in a few months. Side effect: had to turn off my Truenet testing box because they aren't ready to test that yet - file size, timing, etc.

So I wonder how the Vodafone plans for 1Gbps HFC are going. Sorry to mention.

Dear Vodafone. What the F is going on? Promise after promise after promise and still nothing. The last update was for two weeks of work starting 18th January, it's now the 18th of February. It's pretty hard not to get the feeling you're being given the runaround when every update suggests the fix is just around the corner. How can you possibly still be working on this issue 8 months after I first posted here? 10 months after the thread was opened.

At this point I want to reiterate, I'm a Vodafone customer only because I have no other option. When people ask for ISP recommendations, I tell them to avoid Vodafone like the plague. I haven't been this disappointed with an ISP since Slingshot dialup and I refuse to do business with them to this day.

So can someone from Vodafone please answer this question: When will Island Bay cable be fixed? I don't care about scheduled updates to Christchurch, Avalon or anywhere else, all I care about is the substandard connection I'm currently paying for in Island Bay.

We have more work happening this afternoon - just posted information about areas that may experience an interruption.

http://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Network-status/Cable-broadband-upgrades-in-Wellington-region/m-p/197410#M1045

I understand this work will help balance load over the Wellington cable network, so it will also have a positive impact on a number of areas that are not specifically listed.

The work today has completed successfully. There is more work planned for tomorrow, I'll have a list posted in the morning.

We have more planned work today. Initially was going to start at 11am but has been postponed to 2pm, so it may not *all* be able to be completed today, but it's all looking very promising.

We have a list of areas in Wellington region that will experience a brief interruption to cable broadband service on Vodafone Community here http://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Network-status/Cable-broadband-upgrades-in-Wellington-region/m-p/197438#U197438

Like normal I'll keep an eye on the email notigfications and will update you on progress later today.
