Are you referring to TrueNet stats?:

These are NOT measured by software on the user's computer.
The TrueNet organization provides volunteers with hardware probes (modified routers) which actually do the testing, and send the data back to TrueNet where it is converted into graphical format.

Otherwise you're stuck with the OOKLA speed test, using the nearest VF server (in my case, Wellington).

Anaraith: Hey all

Just stumbled upon this forum page after thinking we were having issues with network internally. We got the unlimited 100/10 plan a couple of weeks ago and while the plan is awesome off peak, the times we actually want to use the Internet it comes to a crawl. Pretty bad that Vodafone can advertise speeds they can't actually handle, would have been nice to know this before we signed up.

We live in the Khandallah area so would our issues be related to the Johnsonville connection? We tend to get around 5mbs during peak times and often the network connectivity will drop put all together.

I can see there are a few posts of people that are using monitoring software to log their speeds through out the day. We have a computer plugged directly into the router that can be left on all day to log these speeds. Which software are people using to log the issues? I'd like to log our own fault to try get these fixed a bit better.

Sorry for the slight rant in this post, just annoyed as we aren't getting to use what we are paying for.

Cheers

The issues are known and as John has pointe out there are upgrades taking place.

This possibly doesn't belong here, but is anyone else having major issues with international performance? I'm getting ~80-90 Mbps for many local speed tests, but several sites (particularly those without nearby servers) are painfully slow. I ran a couple of speed tests to San Francisco and Seattle, and...yeah...not pretty.

I'm used to having international bandwidth dip down to ~20-30 Mbps at times, but this is just painful. Latency is significantly higher than usual for West Coast servers too. Anyone else seeing similar numbers? Again, this may not be related to the Vodafone congestion problems (it's almost definitely not related to the local nodes), so apologies if this doesn't belong here. Just curious who all this is affecting.

Thanks for the reply, Sideface! Looks like it's not just me then. Had a friend up in Hamilton run a speed test to SanFran (using his free neighbourhood WiFi) and he had much better results.

I wonder why the international bandwidth is suffering so much for us now. And I also wonder if that's still limited to Wellington, or if it's due to the way things are routed as a whole.

Well I'm in Mt Cook and using the Monkey Brains server in SF I get 155ms ping, 10.6Mbps down and 9.51 Mbps up.

I tried it on Slingshot Fibre as well and got 148ms ping, 26.84Mbps down and 27.37Mbps up (100/50 plan).

I was having very patchy international speeds over the weekend, down to less than 2Mbps at times and often international speed tests seemed to run in bursts then fail before they could finish.

That said, I've seen an improvement in my general connection over the last few days. Still dropping down to unacceptable levels at peak times but better. I'm going to continue to monitor throughout the week before lodging a support ticket.

So, what's happening with this? No roll-out schedule available to the customers, no estimated resolution date. I'd love to know what's going on in the background. I reckon the problems are getting worse faster than they can fix them, and that the sales team are piling on more customers.

Upgrade work is still happening every week, Far less customers will be impacted now due to peak time congestion

Are you able to say if it's first come first served, or if there is another mechanism by which it is determined a person gets their week?
Would it be advantageous to further increase the congestion on my node to increase it's priority. Just kidding, would I really be that desperate?

I can confirm this. I've seen a marked improvement so far this week. It's still far from perfect but I had mostly clear and uninterrupted Netflix on Monday night for the first time in a while. Speeds tests are significantly better.

Nice work, and thanks.

Ok, looks like I spoke too soon. And what the hell is up with those ping times?
