freitasm: Some people are stuck with crappy service because of cable vs fibre.

I suggest looking at Skinny 4G mobile broadband.

I just checked their website, it says they don't cover my area which I find surprising, especially as I have a solid 4G connection on 2degrees (almost 50Mbps!), though obviously that's a different network.

I might give them a call tomorrow to double check, thanks for the tip!

ramboky: I haven't abused anyone, let's not get dramatic here. I pressed for answers to perfectly reasonable questions. John responded by having a tantrum and storming off.

Well I hope your satisfied with your outcome.
Instead of getting the best response that he could give considering he doesn't even work in that area. Giving up his own time to try and help.

Now I doubt there will be any staffers who post on the forum.

Excellent outcome if I do say so myself.

Agreed. Yes ramboky, you got your point across - loud and clear - but at what cost?

I guess what I'm asking is - did the end justify the means? Ah well. I guess you can enjoy having 0 updates on the cable situation now.

ramboky: My apologies to those who valued John's posts here, it certainly wasn't my intention to make him leave geekzone, or even this thread. My only purpose was to express frustration and try to get some straight answers to questions John seemed intent on ignoring.

I stand by what I said though, it's been a long time since John had posted anything in this thread that wasn't an empty promise or something that could just be read off the Vodafone community website.

Do you feel better now?

Honestly it wasn't John's job to do this at all - he was doing it in his spare time and was providing what he had been told. It wasn't his fault that VF wasn't going through with it etc but being the prominent VF guy here he was also in a way bullied for answers which is not what a community is about. Every person here is a volunteer and is not paid for their work unless if they explicitly say they are so honestly it is worth treating them with some respect. They are one of us. This goes for everyone with a company badge or not. Honestly I am disappointed.

It really makes no difference whether John is here or not, all he was doing was posting links to the Vodafone community site and saying "next two weeks" over and over while telling how lucky we all should feel. There have been zero updates here of any worth for months. In fact, I'd rather have no updates than yet another hollow promise to get my hopes up.

I've apologised to those who feel differently. If anyone wants to discuss it more, by all means PM me.

If there were no updates, you'd be jumping and down about that too.

ramboky: It really makes no difference whether John is here or not...

Actually, it does. He helped me with a lot of Vodafone (mobile) issues/queries over the years, assistance I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. But hey, you keep thinking what you want to think.

There haven't been any updates. Unless you count the ones that never eventuated.

The correct response should be simply "thanks John for all your hard work" because I can tell you now - He's invested tonnes of time into this forum, was one of our top members and at the start of this topic he was 100% on the ball when it came with the node upgrades. I bet your bottom dollar too if it wasn't for his input it would have been a heap worse than what it is now (that being, a few nodes having problems instead of the whole of Wellington / Christchurch having problems).

He has made progress happen and that is what I applaud him with. And I have been following this thread right from the very start to 100% know that. So, if you think he wasn't needed think again because everyone would have been on sub 1mbit Cable right now without any work being done.

It isn't his fault he can't share confidential information with the community in public space in order to make you feel better. But, he has done all he can to keep people happy and it has worked with the majority of users. Now, let's all move on...

Yours isn't the only node in the world, is it? He was posting/relaying whatever information he had.

I'm disappointed that you're continually trying to justify what you did by saying that he didn't give you a 100% accurate update on what was happening - yet he (most likely) had 0 to do with what was going on behind the scenes. Hardly showing a "community" spirit, IMO (maybe even a bit arrogant).

Yes, you've both made your point and I've made mine. Let's move on.

This thread is about congestion issues, not John and not me. PM me or start another thread if you want to continue to talk about how I've handled myself.

It is about congestion issues, yes. Problem is after last night I don't see any further updates from anyone at Vodafone on the horizon now.

As I've already pointed out, the only meaningful updates posted here in the last few months are available on the Vodafone community site. The only other updates have been the same continual promises that Island Bay fixes are imminent, promises even John has little confidence in. As far as I'm concerned there is little loss to this particular thread.

I realise John added a lot of value to other threads and I've already apologised for that, but I did not "abuse" John, despite claims to the contrary. I was trying to get him to understand that his posts about Island Bay lacked any credibility and trying to get some real answers as to what the hell is going on here. Fair questions after a year of ongoing issues with the Vodafone network and a dozen or more broken promises.

Ultimately, John chose to take his ball and go home because of one interaction with one person in one thread, after years on this forum, or at least that's the picture he's painting.

His posts didn't lack credibility, they were his best efforts.  If you were unhappy with that you should've used the official channels for complaint. Geekzone is not an official channel for complaints.

IMO the wrong person left the thread.
