This is looking like the Airing of Grievances at Festivus now.

Let's stop this. There is a thread notifying users about John's retirement.

In reality cable was not John's area and he was just a messenger.

I understand the frustration as I was on the same boat. People pay good money for shit service. It is obvious the company was feeding crap but that's not John's fault. He could only really say as he was told.

Keepp this about the service from now.

My suggestion is really to look for other ISP and if your area doesn't have fibre, so be it, get DSL or something else. Just leave Vodafone because it is a lost cause.

Amen to that. And again, my apologies to everyone for antagonising John to the point he decided to leave, it genuinely wasn't my intention.

Does anyone have recommendations for high speed alternatives in Island Bay? Skinny looks like it may be an option if their coverage extends to my house, though I'm relatively heavy data user (streaming Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Geforce Now etc) so I'd prefer a higher cap, or no cap if possible.

ramboky: Yes, you've both made your point and I've made mine. Let's move on.

This thread is about congestion issues, not John and not me. PM me or start another thread if you want to continue to talk about how I've handled myself.

Last time I checked there was a waitlist for DSL on the Island Bay exchange. So practical alternatives might be few and far between.

+1

That is the problem for Island Bay residents - cable that doesn't work when you want it to, no fibre until late 2019, no 4g wireless option, a waitlist for xDSL connections, and poor xDSL performance when you do get it  (speaking as one who has tried) wink.

You might be on the fringe of 4G at your address and you can add an antenna to the modem. Skinny have a 30 day money back guarantee on the modem if you're not happy with the speeds so it may be worth a shot.

I don't quite understand how there could be a waitlist on an exchange - if anything (which is something that does happen at times) it would be a ~2 week delay if all VDSL2 slots were in use and a new card was required.

Island Bay has a few cabinets as well, it's not all exchange fed.

I've started a new thread

Where did that go?

I couldn't start a new thread myself, I was too angry with ramboky's treatment of John (totally unjustified).

I'm assuming it got nuked because a few people (myself included) pointed out to ramboky that he was acting like a complete <censored>.

I'm assuming it got nuked because it was a thinly disguised internet lynch mob.

Back to the subject at hand, I have a 2degrees VDSL line going in next week (I may have to postpone to the following week due to work commitments) and I'll be trialling Skinny 4G broadband too. I'll report back when I have some results.

So you do have an alternative solution Ramboky........god only know why you didn't exercise this option earlier if you were that disgruntled.

Island Bay has no comparable options and won't have until 2019. I didn't look at look at lesser options because I was continually told by Vodafone that the issue would be fixed in the next week or two. This has been covered in this thread multiple times. If you were here because this issue affected you and not just to have a go at me you'd be aware of this already.

If you or anyone else wants to continue to stick the boot in, please do it via PM and stop pissing all over this thread. Thank you.
