Back to basics:

Island Bay, cable 100/10 Mbps, node WKH, 9 pm:

(my average 9 pm speed this week was 11 Mbps, range 6 to 17 Mbps)

johnr has recently told us that WKH is "in the next lot to be done"

I think that we can reasonably assume that WKH has not been fixed yet, but will be fixed next week.

At my dads house. He's had Vodafone 100/10 cable installed for 3 days now and so far so good. He said there's been no drop in speed around 9pm at all. No complaints.

This is in Evans Bay, Wellington. Don't know what node it is.

Here is a test I did just now.

Meanwhile, we're definitely feeling the congestion tonight. :(

Yep, it's been rubbish here to. Is anyone outside of Island Bay still having congestion issues? Because as far as I can tell it's only been us for the last few months.

ramboky: Is anyone outside of Island Bay still having congestion issues?

Yes. But only dropping to ~35Mb/s which is tolerable as Netflix works fine and I don't really do online stuff at that time.

There is a downward trend though, so I suppose eventually it will cause problems again.

It was like that for me late last year, after the initial fixes I has a relatively solid connection again. Then it deteriorated to around what you're seeing now and steadily got worse from there. These days it's a pretty consistent 10Mbps every evening through peak, though real world experience suggests it's slower. Hopefully Vodafone are on top of it and fully resolve congestion issues before they become more widespread again, but I really don't hold out much hope.

I know from your first posts which launched the Krapi cable stream - almost 12 months ago now smile - that you have a 130/10 Mbps cable connection.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but this is a peak-hour drop to aprx. 25% of your line speed (although better than the 2% you were getting a year ago).

You don't "do online stuff at that time" - is this your personal preference, or because you have learned to avoid using the internet when most other people are using it?

We have been told that node WKH will be fixed soon - hopefully before the first anniversary of your original post. wink

I'm usually horizontal on the couch watching Netflix with a glass of scotch by 9pm.

I use non-conventional measurements for my internet speed, namely the 'interfering with my life' scale. If, for example I push the boat out one evening and decide that I fancy also swiping cat gifs on r/all on the tablet while lying on the couch while watching Netflix and drinking scotch, and that action causes Netflix to stop, then I'm likely to head over to the forums to get a lynch mob gathered to march on Vodafone HQ.

I suggest that Vodafone should supply free scotch to all of their customers currently suffering from web congestion.  wink

I'm not sure giving scotch to grumpy people is such a good idea... But I'm willing to risk it.

I'm right in the middle with 13Mbps. It's like living in the future. I half expect to see flying cars when I step outside.
