Luckily fiber is due here around Oct, so I'll be switching as soon as possible. Any recommendations re suitable routers? I'm currently using a Linksys EA6500 router and planning on switching to Bigpipe.

I'd say stick with what you've got. The EA6500 is a beastly router. If you're really itching to upgrade, though, setting up a pfSense box and pairing it with a wireless access point will give you unrivaled network performance and functionality.

Finally managed to get through to tech support.

Apparently, there is an outage in the greater Wellington area, affecting multiple ISPs incl DSL. No ETA for resolution and they're in the process of updating the IVR and Network Status page.

We've been on the cable network since approx 2000 and I can't remember ever having this bad an issue! Can't say I'm impressed.

Interesting as this is not what I got told by the vodafone tech support and the greater wellington issue that I was informed about was apparently resolved at 7pm tonight.

Island Bay, node WKH, 10:50pm

Still cannot test with OOKLA to any server.

nPerf to MyRepublic Auckland server: 6/10 Mbps down/up

I still can't complete a speed test, and nPerf won't even load. :( I tried other speed tests. Speakeasy's almost finished, but timed out while sitting at 0.20 Mbps.

He's dead Jim.

Interesting that Vodafone are now saying there is a widespread issue affecting multiple ISPs, yet none have any mention of an outage on their pages, Vodafone included. And their claim it's a Vodafone Miramar issue doesn't match reports from users in the area. I'm not sure support really know what's going on at all.

Yeah, I agree. We now have 3 different "issues" being advised by VF support to customers. On the flipside, my speeds are now back to normal, so seeing 120ish/10 now.

I can now finally get to Speedtest. Currently running a test to the VF Wellington server and getting 0.12. Not going to bother any further tonight. Waste of my time.

This just keeps getting worse and worse. People should not be asking if Vodafone will be compensating them, but when and how Vodafone will be compensating them. We should not stand for this. I'm sure that we're all busy people who value our time, and we have more important things to do than constantly waste time dealing with our ISP.

It's 2016. People use the Internet for communication; for research and studies; for playing games; for reading the latest news. Between sleep, work, and miscellaneous activities, some people are only able to be at home and online for a few hours during the day. It's abhorrent that so many of us have complained for this long and still nothing has yet come of it.

I honestly do not understand how Vodafone can be in a position to let things get this bad. I believe we're at the point that Vodafone needs either some legal action or government regulation to get them to finally step up to the plate. Vodafone shouldn't be able to just "eventually" get things fixed and then get away scot free. The customers that have been affected for so long deserve more than that. Many folks here have not been able to reliably reach advertised speeds for more than a year, and they deserve something for that.

Our connection is free for as long as these issues persist so I'm not personally too upset with the situation I'm in, but it's disgusting to think that most people are just continuing to pay full rates for a connection that doesn't perform anywhere close to what it should at those prices.

Take action. Call Vodafone and start documenting things. Go to TDR if necessary. Explore alternative solutions. Don't sit idly and let Vodafone get away with providing sub-par service at inflated rates. Quite simply, Vodafone doesn't deserve to earn money for advertising a service that they cannot come close to providing.

Yes, I'm more than a bit frustrated tonight. I'd be spewing far more colourful words if I didn't have such a high level of respect for the people on these forums.

My speeds are still under 2Mbps and speedtests failing.

Hoorah, I managed to finish my first speed test! Things aren't even loading now. Facebook's just stuck and a handful of messages have failed to send.

Also, for whatever reason, the "y" key stopped working for me in Geekzone's chat box. Happens in all browsers, and only affects Geekzone. I need to Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V the letter for it to work. Weird.

Bah, forgot to attach the speed test to the last post because I was so perplexed by the "y" issue. Tried to run another, but it managed to get stuck again. It's comfortably below 1 Mbps, though!

@Kodiack Couldn't agree more. It's one thing to get less than advertised speeds, it's quite another to get speeds that aren't even classified as broadband. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if my 2degrees connection doesn't turn out to be sufficient. Do I stick with a company who clearly don't give a crap and are happy to feed their customers lines to keep them paying, all in the hope that they'll sort their s#!t out sooner or later, or do I settle for a much slower connection off peak?

At the moment I'd have to say it's not worth the frustration or the feeling of being taken for a ride.
