Something's up with the latency today. I'm seeing occasional 200+ ms pings to Google, and latency to Wellington stuff is ~2-3x higher than normal.

Flatmate just got back and he's having latency issues too. Seriously, Vodafone, what the hell is this crap?!

Bandwidth is sitting around 100 Mbps, but stuff is still uncomfortably slow because of this latency issue. Every day it's a new bloody issue with this ISP.

Restarted the modem again. It's slightly more reasonable, but still far from what it should be. And at least now automatic ping tests are going to NZ servers instead. >_>

I'm unhappy with both the latency and the jitter, though. I'd expect lower latency than that to Sydney, let alone someplace within the country. Meanwhile, a friend on VDSL...

Crap like this is why it's completely and entirely disgusting for Vodafone to advertise their cable Internet as comparable to UFB. I don't know of anyone on fibre that's had anywhere near these number of constant issues.

FWIW I'm on 100mb fibre in Christchurch and I can't get better results to that TGA server.

I suspect it's scoring us down for not installing Java.

Naw, the asterisk just denotes that packet loss wasn't tested. The latency and jitter measurements are the same with or without Java.

Yes, however the "line quality" is reduced when Pingtest can't test for packet loss.

Ah, I see what you mean. I'm pretty sure they used to show "A*" for well-performing, low-latency/low-jitter connections. Maybe it's a semi-recent change? Either way, the letter grade doesn't mean much. My ping and jitter are still pathetic when compared to what they should be.

Already looking grim at 7pm.

It will be interesting to see what that translates to at 9pm.

2degrees connection is in. Only ADSL2 until the port is upgraded. 13Mbps. Not great, not terrible.

13 Mbps would be fantastic about now.

Vodafone's High Speed cable offering vs 2degrees ADSL2:

What an embarrassment. I should get a date on the VDSL upgrade tomorrow, will let you folks know how it goes.

Even when the cable "numbers" are better than the ADSL, things like YouTube might still be functionally better on the ADSL due to Vodafone's naff routing to CDNs. Can you confirm?
