Jase2985:

@Sideface as of april 28 chorus are officially extending the range of VDSL. Also when you were on VDSL was it before the upgrade to 998 band plan? you might get better results now with the new band plan

Yes, I tried before the 998 band plan.

If VF don't get their act together "in the next two weeks", I might try VDSL again.

I've just been looking at the Vodafone NZ twitter feed. Thoroughly unscientific, but since Dylan and JohnR left GZ, twitter complaints (particularly Island Bay and Kapiti cable congestion) look to have gone up significantly.

Though I guess it's also gotten worse.

@mdf I tried Twitter. The only response from Vodafone was waffle and misdirection. John however contacted me, but his response was very much in line with his responses here over the last six months or so (though notably less polite) and so far with exactly the same outcome.

Speaking of which, their Facebook page makes for interesting reading too. Amazing that they still persist in keeping that God-awful outsourced call centre, when no one ever gets any help from it.

Oops, wrong test! That's what happens when you're testing two connections over two different devices (wired and WiFi). That was a 2degrees test over WiFi. I have two WiFi routers sitting near each other at the moment so speeds aren't quite as good as via Ethernet.

Both sharing experiences and making a contemporaneous file note should the matter come up for "re-discussion".

I survived (barely) the useless VF call centre, IVR tree and transfers to nowhere - honestly, why not just have a direct dial to the cable/fibre department since you obviously can't/won't integrate the systems. I knew I would be transferred, I knew the transfer wouldn't work, I knew to ask for the direct dial so I could repeat the exercise, yet I was *still* surprised when the direct dial provided was wrong. More fool me. [/rant]

However, my lucked turned and I eventually managed to speak to someone who clearly would be able to pour p!ss out of a boot without needing the instructions written on the heel - Sahil was awesome.

Sahil has confirmed that:

- I am actually booked for a cable move on the date I asked for it (great start)

- No charge for the cable install, as the new house is already connected to cable

- Most importantly, I am *not* signing up for a new 12 month term by agreeing to a move, and in fact, all my fixed terms have expired

And he made the mandatory noises about "nodes being upgraded constantly". I can't be sure, but I may have heard the sound of a gun being c0cked in the background prior to him saying this. [/facetiousness]

On that basis, I will make the plunge and stick with cable on the dreaded Island Bay WKH node. As we haven't taken possession yet, I can't be sure whether the copper lines etc. are still there. I figure there's no harm in allowing them to transfer the cable over, and it will give me time to sort out xDSL if (when) needed.

Be sure to triple-check the "no new 12 month term" bit  smile

A decision made with a great deal of trepidation.

Puts me in mind of an old Penny Arcade - about Infinium/the Phantom Lapboard, but not *entirely* inapt (and perhaps not fair either so a total cheap shot):

I finally got my response from T2 :)

I'm on WWH and all my problems will be resolved when the node is upgraded.... and "the node will need upgrading in the next few months"

Yeah i basically replied

I'm sorry but thats not really acceptable. "advising that the node will need upgrading in the next few month" The node WILL need upgrading? based on my testing so far it appears that the node needs upgrading now. Yet I'm expected to keep paying for something that on a good day performs at less than half of what its suppose to and on a bad day is completely unusable.

This response seems a lot like "oh yeah that node needs some upgrades... we'll do that sometime in the next few months" When up until this point the generic response has been "performance problem? what performance problem?" to be honest kind of annoys me, especially when back on the 26th of September you told me my node was upgraded and everything would be fine now.
