DjShadow:

I've noticed this at times when doing a speedtest, it looks like its going to sit around 5-10mb but manages to find its way upto 20-30mb towards the end

Yeah, I have that happen a lot. I have the inverse happen occasionally too. This speed test oddly started out at ~95 Mbps and held 80+ Mbps for several seconds, then it degraded to this:

Haven't read anyone in Wainuiomata complaining in a while... Having just moved there, I can confirm the issue is affecting that node as well.  Last couple of nights, typically 10-20mbps download, ~10mpbs upload, tonight I got 10mbps an hour ago but about 35mbps just now.  First night ~35ms ping, second night 9ms, tonight up to 48ms - speed and ping both seem to fluctuate a bit.

Ah sorry DjShadow, I read back a few pages but didn't realise you were in Wainui - my bad.  As a little additional note, according to the Vodafone and Spark address checkers, our house doesn't have xDSL of any kind available so other than Vodafone cable there's no real option for us.  I dunno, maybe the address checkers are wrong, I would have thought ADSL would be pretty much anywhere.

Can you try going to www.chorus.co.nz and try their address checker? That will confirm or not if you can get DSL

I would of thought Wainuiomata would of been well covered for DSL

Yeah me too, and we probably are.  The address either side of mine shows "potential VDSL", so I'm assuming the same applies for us.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

It's kinda sad that "not bad" has been redefined as "half of what you pay for".

That would indicate the core network is congested, I do remember JohnR saying its been upgraded already

Multiple nodes (six or seven) hang off WKH. If their usage drops, WKH improves. We've seen it before when other nodes were having issues. Vodafone congestion issues go far beyond Island Bay and Wellington.

Well...got nowhere with the retention team, won't let me leave or switch to VDSL without paying $199 early break fee.

They kept pushing the point of the gigabit upgrade coming within the next few months. Im tempted to wait till our mobile contract is up in september and if no better switch then, else goto the TDR

Their job is to retain you as a customer, not to help you. Contact TDR, they should be able to help you and save you throwing hundreds of dollars away on a connection that doesn't perform, from a company that doesn't give a crap.

As I suggested a while back and was disputed vehemently by Vodafone, their focus seems to be on the DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade and they're just hoping customers will continue to bend over while they get the pieces in place. But how long will that take? Are you sure you want to rely on a "few months" from the same people who can turn a "couple of weeks" into a year of waiting?

The fact Vodafone are penalizing you for trying to break a contract which they can't honor is disgusting.

Personally I'd go to the TDR now rather than wait as that might weaken your case.

Did they at least give you a refund for the duration that your connection will be affected?
