OMG! It's not even 7pm yet:
... this promises to be a rough night

The connection is performing like complete, utter garbage tonight.
MikeHales:
Hello all
Thanks for all the posts and information about this issue.
We’re working hard to increase capacity on the cable network. After investing $6m late last year, we have an even bigger investment project in train which we are confident will future-proof the network for years to come. This latest round of investment is more intensive than before and also more complex, so unfortunately we can’t give an accurate date to relieve the congestion you are experiencing just yet. We’re working as quickly as we can and hope to have things sorted in Wellington quite soon.
As I get more detail, I will of course share it here and in the Vodafone Community.
I'll keep a watchful eye on this thread also.
Mike
At what point will you just pull the plug on the outdated coaxial network and allow your paying, suffering customers to move over to the UFB network, which they have already paid for via taxes? IMO that 6 million you have "invested" is just a waste.
I have advised 2 people to leave vodafone and get on UFB with "Anybody else that isn't myreplublic" and they are happy as.
Am debating just paying the $199 break fee to get away from Vodafone

You'd think Vodafone would be far better off getting the leaches who are using the vast majority of the data off the HFC network. Based upon data I've seen moving a few hundred high use customers to VDSL2 or UFB would do wonders for the entire HFC network as a temporary fix. Even better I've sure Vodafone have rules in their T&C about impacting other users - Vodafone would be better off simply telling these people they're not welcome as customers and send them on their merry way with a $250 payout.

Except Vodafone currently have a policy of not connecting anyone to fibre where HFC is available. I kind of understand the business rationale (no cut to Chorus), but when you've got capacity issues wouldn't it be great to offload some people?

Excellent plan, in theory.
Don't forget that some of the most congested areas - eg Island Bay - won't have a fibre option until December 2019.

It looks like a decent proportion of Wellington has fibre available now, according to https://broadbandmap.nz/
Be sure to keep an eye on your address so you can get out of the cable purgatory ASAP!
