Ran a speed test after seeing Sideface's poor result from above. We're using the connection a bit more heavily tonight so the result isn't entirely accurate, but it's still really good.

Absolutely no difference - tonight, or earlier today.

Downstream has been below 20Mbps since 7pm.

@DJShadow - could you please raise an issue ticket via email on http://www.vodafone.co.nz/contact/form/. We had a look and you shouldn't be having issues post Friday WKH upgrade on Friday and utilisation is v low. So, we want to have a look at your specific connection.

cheers

@MikeHales - I think you meant @sideface and not DJshadow?

DJshadow and a bunch of others including myself are in wainuiomata and are affected pretty much the same. I know I am on node W40 and it has been confirmed by a couple of people that it is one of the most congested nodes.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Does "40C" mean anything when trying to tell which node you are on?

I had Dylan lookup which node I am connected to back in the day so wouldn't have a clue. It might be worth getting Mike to find which node you are connected to if you message him your account number?

Just had a text from home to say the net went down for a little while shortly after 2pm, fingers crossed it was a node upgrade

Edit: Speedtest peaked at 52mb, damn.

Sigh....another night and another wonderful experience of Vodafones Ultra Fast cable Broadband: 10Mbp dwn 5Mbps up.

Ngaio has been absolutely woeful for ages. I know its not your fault Mike (or the people that work at the coalface) but a years worth of poor performance with no resolution in site is beyond a joke, surely Vodafone Management must be aware of the amount of bad-will they are generating. The worst thing is that I am stuck with Vodafone Cable as the only other thing I can get is plain old ADSL such is the fantastic planning of the Fibre rollout (although on some days DSL speeds would be a godsend).

Interestingly the Vodafone website now says speeds only up to 50Mbps down may be possible on cable...if thats the case then how come they are still charging me for 130/10?

Life was so much simpler before the Internet.

I've been dealing with the Complaints team at Vodafone and the impression I'm getting is the node upgrades will be a never-ending programing as bandwidth demands keep going up and up.

I do fully agree with the comment earlier on that they should cut their loses and decommission the cable network where fibre is available instead of spending millions on something they will never keep up with.

Have you submitted a complaint to TDR yet? You'll save yourself a lot of headache if you tackle the problem directly instead of ringing up Vodafone and being connected with reps that may not even be familiar with the extent of the issues.

The problem is Vodafone can't decommission the cable network since then they are contractually required to take down the overhead cables from what I understand.
Also they would need to move everyone off cable onto fibre.
So all of a sudden any profit you made by owning the access turn into a non trivial liability having to move everyone including the inevitable churn as customers move to other providers.
Geeks have put up for it for over 1 year. The average person probably doesn't notice. I know my dad who is on cable has never mentioned anything to me. But he never streams any video.
The media and their competition would have a field day too. Since who again recommended Cable instead of UFB?
