Well this story has a happing ending. I called to move my account, waited 30 minutes as I was bounced around from department to department and country to country and finally got to customer retention.

First of all while I had realised TCL were rolling out DOCSIS 3 and 100Mbs plans I was not interested because my issue is not speed but caps. But the retention person, after asking why I was moving offered me a 150GB plan for about what I pay for 90GB and an upgrade to 100Mbs. That sounded pretty reasonable so I have decided to stay.

What I hadn't realised that there are new Warpspeed plans where 150GB is $99.95 which is what I was paying for 90GB. But I have been offered additional value over that which is nice.

I have also been given 150GB to use to the end of my billing cycle but that's not going to be so useful given my cycle ends in 4 days and it's hard to use up 150GB in 4 days. But still nice.

So props to TCL for looking after their existing customers.

As for the 100Mbs services, I don't really care if my existing router supports something less than 100 Mbs since it's going to be way faster than any international link I might use (I think).

That is the additional price on the package deal. If you want to buy the broadband outright without a phone and tv it will cost you $155.95

I don't pretend to understand all the complexities of TCL's pricing but what I am seeing is

Naked broadband is $155.95 for Warpseed 150GB as you note

But interestingly if you choose the package FreeviewTV, T-Box and 150GB it's also $155.95. One could argue that Freeview is free so they should not charge for it but then again you 're getting it via their cable system and therefore not subject to the vagaries of UHF transmission and you get a PVR to boot.

And I personally am paying about the same now for 150GB and 100Mbs that I was paying for 90GB and 15Mbs.

Ichiu7 I agree.

You've presented some really interesting comments in your posts that have been rattling around in my head all day.

I just upgraded to the 100mbit/100Gb plan but I'm seriously thinking of down grading it again next month already.

Congestion in the network seems to be preventing us from getting any real performance improvement and as a result we're not even coming anywhere close to using the daily average that we should be to consume even a fraction of the quota we now have.

One thing I would like to know, what are you using the extra data for?

I'm a bit torn. I'm not keen to go over my data cap, and with 100mbit I know that YouTube on our TV could flat line our cap in a week, so I'm not letting us loose on that one.

So without YouTube, we're just not getting close to using the data for legal stuff... I'm not interested in setting up VPN's or what ever to just pull data off NetFlix... if NetFlix want my money then they can drop their IP blocking and open their product up for sale to my in my home.

I was hoping that I would benefit for my work stuff... but the one thing I did want this week, netinstall file for Debian, still only came in at 180kbits/s, so what's the point?

Yeah I just heard about Telecom doubling their caps today from a friend.

A few weeks ago Snap increased their caps 4x for no additional cost, guy at work is on 400GB cap for around $100 a month or 560GB for $130 :|

If Telstra don't come to the party i will have to move away myself, it's too good a deal to pass up.

Lots of data is not that good to some of us if the international link is very slow so streaming is not usable. TCL have shown that lately.
