Gisborne has good 3G coverage in the main area not way out of town

To make sure you have 3G coverage at home if possible ask a friend or someone and borrow there 3G handset!

Big deal. We are talking GPRS speeds not HSDPA.

At least Vodafone is actually expanding their network among other things in the pipeline.


FYI, Telecom 3G has a wider coverage than Vodafone 3G. And TNZ is expanding as well.

mike: I still use GPRS all the time. Good fun :)
I don't mind using GPRS. I even posted in my Blog about how it is useful and ti works great for some situations (e-mail mainly).

However what I found is that coverage in Greytown, even for GPRS, is minimal. And even when connected speeds were very slow.

Interestingly enough, my Vodafone Treo 750v had no problems downloading e-mails or the odd browsing, while the dedicated Express Card XU780, capable of doing up to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA wasn't capable of getting a fix good enough for my laptop to download e-mails.

Greytown is buzzing. We spent Monday morning there and had lunch before coming back to Wellington. Lots of people even on Monday, lots of things going on. Vodafone should take care of that little town...

Back in Wellington now...
