But surely some traces could be put in place to find out if this is a handset problem or a source problem (or even an unintented translation going inside Vodafone's systems) to them advise customers on how to get this fixed (i.e. fix handset settings, contact Twitter, etc)?
juha: Am seeing the same exclamation mark issue on Android, iOS, Symbian and MeeGo handsets, and also on the Nokia Suite Windows software.

rachela: I've just checked back in my txt feed on my Galaxy S. The sms notices were formatted fine on 1 Aug, but the first notice I got at 12.44pm on 2 Aug was screwed, and has been since then.
