Seekay: Thanks for everyone?s comments?great that all Geekzone members knew about the new plan through forum post(s).

I think you may have missed the point.

WxC did notify customers - it's not just Geekzone members who know about these changes, but of course being like minded people who take an active interest in technology, Geekzone members would be more likely to be aware of this sort of thing (same as taxi drivers being interested in fuel prices, or a new fuel efficient car).

Seekay:World Exchange?s revenue would drop up to $300000/month if all their existing 50000 customers (if all were on Fusion) were to change their plan?I just can?t help thinking World Exchange have no motivation to change these customers over in a hurry.

Bear in mind that just because the new plans are obviously more suited to you, that this is not the case for everyone, so changing existing customers to new plans should not be a goal. It's not realistic to make the assumption that your user requirements are the same as every other customer's.

Seekay:
The new plan will however have achieved its purpose in that it will look/be competitive to prospective new customers who will have looked at their website.

Sorry to raise old news, I didn?t realise it had been posted previously (I?m new to Geekzone) but it just didn?t seem to be handled fairly by World Exchange.

There was a fairly lengthy thread on here a few months ago regarding Xnet plans, although the primary focus was discussing value for money for higher usage customers, you might find it interesting to have a read.

I'm not sure why you believe you have been treated unfairly. They have advised you by posting new pricing on their website, as well as a notification on your invoice - The ball is in your court what plan to pick.

I can not recall seeing the new plan on any invoice. It was only seen 2 days back on there website while trying to find other information.

I am currently a fusion customer and have VFX line included however I am not sure if that would be the case with the new plan of $65 5GB or $100 50GB

Back to there website to find out more

I noted the upgraded plans on the invoice. In addition to that, I was called about the 1st of August and asked if I would like to move onto the new plans. As I am on the grandfathered "Torrent" plan, I declined as the new plans would be more expensive for me.

So, some people are being phoned and given the option to change.

Interesting that they would contact customer(s) that they would know would not benefit from changing and not contact those like myself who would.   World Exchange (like any company) would have a business plan before they launch new plans. They would know each and every customer and how many would save money by changing (as this would determine the potential loss revenue to them).

They would have crunched all the numbers and decided how, and how much, to promote the new plan and have a best and worst case scenario of how many new customers they might attract vs how many existing customers (who would benefit) would potentially find out and change plans.

I have changed and save $6.50 a month...not much but I am happy...almost enough for beer at the pub. :-)

(One post above says the 2 plans have different features but I can't see anything different and World Exchange told me they were identical...if someone knows definitely what they are I wouldn't mind knowing - except of course the reduced cost.)

Seriously, the customer signed up for a service and if they want to change it then it is their choice. The fact Xnet actively told them on the invoices suggest they went out of their way to promote people to switch.

They do have different features other than the cost.

The new plan includes 5gb of data whereas the old one didn't include any data.

If you go over your data cap on the new plan you don't get dialup speeds, you get a page that says you need to increase your cap in order to continue using the internet, whereas on the old plan you would have been trottled to 64kbps when you reached the cap.

NZ, AU, and a few other popular destinations are cheaper to call. Others like South Africa are more expensive. I saw it advertised on my invoice, a month later e-mailed them with some questions, and about 2 months later they called me asking if I want to change even though it will be cost neutral for my usage. I did change.
