I was surprised at how poor the coverage was in central greytown on my s3. Kept dropping out and losing signal altogether, and the natives told me that they had the same problem to. But out in the country it was fine.

joker97: well to solve this entire issue why don't you get all who visits your place switching to other providers where possible? looks like VF is not going change something that's been around for decades in non city areas in a hurry?

edit; added "in a hurry" (who knows about next few years)

Did you not see my RBI post which advised looks like changes are coming this summer?

Hi Ive lived here for over 30 years. Never make a statement such as my OP unless its covering all bases, which means all types of phones from cheap Chinese through to top of the line smartphones such as Nokia and Iphone.

There are parts of the Beach where VF reception is average but much of it is sporadic.

Problem solved change your mobile provider.

I have been with vodafone for years... Moved to 2Degrees, then moved back to Vodafone (because 2Degrees has limited international roaming).

I was on Vodafone BEST plan, 3GB data, unlimited txts, 1000 PXTs. The problem is my phone is unusable at work place due to poor coverage... Tested with 2Degrees + Telecom, both has excellent coverage. I went for Telecom.

In Tauranga, if you happen to be at Bayfair Mall, inside the K-Mart, vodafone reception is patchy. Sending a text can be difficult while in there. On Telecom XT, my reception is full bar! - same phone.

Back to your topic, why dont you move to 2degrees since they have excellent reception?

But in all seriousness.. I do agree with John/Steve... No mobile network has nationwide coverage. Just need to find a network that works for you coverage / price / feature wise... and deal with the downsides.

Or shell out the peanuts required to get a phone capable of receiving the coverage bands already provided by Vodafone in your current area?

3G and 3GS do not support 3G on 900Mhz (3G extended)

So the OP is talking about Waihi BEACH. When we go to the beach later in January we will do without broadband internet, HD TV, Air Conditioning and a supermarket within 5 minutes drive as well. But we get boating, swimming, fishing, etc. Tell your visitors to embrace the beach lifestyle and (gasp) turn their phones off for a while. I used to walk to the other end of the beach to pick up emails with my phone, now I just don't bother. Different for permanent residents I know, but I assume you choose to live where you do.

Reason I am changing to telecom next week, my mother was on vodafone until a month ago and is happy to have changed to telecom as she at least can make phone calls in the house.

If a provider puts a site in the industrial area (hopefully less moaners) or on top of one of the high lamp posts in the middle of town along with a smart marketing campaign they will get most of the residents that like the use of a mobile phone to quickly sign up.

But I have found it does not matter where you are and the coverage provided as if you are in a place where the main providers have almost perfect coverage and the town gets over run on weekends, for events etc the back haul can be overwhelmed on sites that you might as well not have coverage at all.
