I'll repeat my question in case it got lost in the mix: is there an approximate time over the weekend it goes live or will it come on in stages?

Are other towns cities going to get an upgrade in big blocks like this or just site by site?

Have 2 questions

1) does dual carrier refer to 900 + 2100 or is dual both within 900MHz? (sorry dumb)

2) the map on the link above shows red paint over dunedin but not being a geographist is it the entire dunedin? Does dunedin have 900mhz? (last time w voda feb 2012 i almost died as no 3g reception in any concrete building inc my work and my house so might as well turn the phone off)

So, did the 900 MHz DC go ahead today or is it soon? How much of Auckland is actually covered? It is mostly the CBD or are we out to Papakura etc?

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

By the 28th and it's the wider Auckland region it's a fair number of sites but none are live at the moment

It is coming though to the other smaller smokes. It is reasonably well know that work has been going on in at least Wellington + Christchurch deploying U900. Going to be an interesting year.

All I think when reading this is is that in reality the answer is just: Yes, but I am not allowed to say that.

nicks: Have Vodafone said whether they plan to do the same across other cities? I have awful Vodafone 3G coverage at home (Wellington northern suburbs), but 2G coverage from the same site (just around the crest of a hill) is great, so 3G on 900MHZ would probably work (and would save me having to buy a femtocell).

I'm guessing it is Johnsonville or Newlands? Vodafone used to have great coverage and speeds here until a few years ago. They have moved/repositioned panels and things went down pretty quickly. I complained, JohnR looked at it, but never got things "fixed". Number portability came on so I moved on to another network.
