And the person at the vodafone store was wondering why I wanted to swap the V3x out for a non 3g phone :)

Computerworld featured a story on it today which you can see here

The most ironic quote is this from Paul Brislen

"We've had the problem a couple of time in the past," Brislen says. "It's been elusive but Nokia has put in a permanent patch."

Funny how they are now claiming they have fixed a problem they denied existed. Reminds me very much of the issue with early GPRS phones diverting all calls to voicemail that Vodafone denied for close to 9 months existed yet when they fixed it they had to gloat about it so everybody knew it was actually fixed! :-)

Maybe it's about time Vodafone started being a bit more honest about their problems rather than using the usual IT world excuse that in ain't broke.

It's not just the 3G system either, people operating on GSM frequencies also had issues. I suspect this is them still denying the problem. I wonder if they've any intent on reimbursing anyone, pretty sure there's an exemption clause in the fineprint for that, more of an annoyance than anything.

Nokia huh, hmmm there seems to be a common correlation between the works "Nokia" and "Unreliable"

Both my Nokia phones are bug ridden heaps, (6234 and 1100 with recent SW version)

That ancient Nokia 1100 I grabbed from the bin with old Software is PERFECT, such a reliable phone!

Much unlike the "new" 1100 I have which is hopeless. (it's giving me "Insert Sim Card" just now)

Telecom have a good offer at present....Free Sanyo Ice (katana 6600) with 12 month Flexi signup

My Nokias have always been good reliability-wise, 5110/5120, 6310i (2 week standby!), 3650, 3315 and some useless gimmick model which I got rid of after about a week (3000 series with "game" button layout). I had a couple of older Samsungs which were appalling rubbish, thankfully the new ones have turned it around and are quite impressive, Motorola V80 which developed a (not unexpected) interface issue between layers (swivel phone), a couple of the cheap Alcatels, SonyEricsson W900i which is a near perfect phone, just needs a faster interface and A2DP support and it'd be my ideal phone, as it is it's pretty damn good. I had a brief flirtation with a Treo750 which was great the first couple of days, then I started finding problems (surprisingly poor bluetooth implementation and reliability, flaky OS, a few UI issues). Throughout the various phones, I think I first noticed issues with texts going "missing" back when I was first using the V80 which was about 3 years ago. Every now and then I'd get a few days here and there when texts to and/or from me would just "vanish". So it's certainly not a new problem, and it's not the phone as it's happened with 4 different ones (2 of which were even bought in NZ!)

Both Telecom and Vodafone will blame the others SMS gateway whenever there's a problem, probably because whoever you end up talking to doesn't know enough of the technical details, or maybe that's just what they're told to say. Maybe it's a conspiracy and they intentionally break things during heavy text periods so they can reap the money without having to pay the competition the royalties for the inter-network transfer? I dobut we'll ever get a straight answer from them.

Isnt' that great how Vodafone New Zealand can't seem to have a presence here, to at least acknowledge the fact that people posting are actually helping them out by pointing problems, but have no problems in talking around to others with no connection with the real world?

Shame, really. As I pointed out before, most telcos in New Zealand still need to read The Cluetrain Manifesto.

In general the only responses we see are "there are not problems", or unofficial ones...

Vodafone definitely know about this message board and what's discussed so it surprises me that there isn't an official contact here.
Maybe a question to ask the man himself...
