crichton: "I'd also like to see some consistency and fairness in other roaming charges on Vodafone."
I'd like to see some co-operation/consistency between Vodafone branches around the world. I purchased a Vodafone.cz SIM card in Czech Republic last year and keyed in the correct code for roaming before I left to return to NZ. Vodafone.cz SIM card banned from making phone calls through Vodafone.co.nz! Only SMS permitted, regardless of credit on the card. What hope is there for roaming around the world when Vodafone can't cooperate with itself internationally?
crichton: "Roaming on a GSM network is nothing to do with keying in correct codes. Roaming is on the network side.
Sounds like to me your handset was SIM locked or something"
Suggest you check facts before shooting. You can enhance your knowledge by reading it all at www.vodafone.cz.
To roam with your vodafone.cz sim card & phone - before leaving the Czech Republic you enter a code to switch ON international roaming. So, yes, in the instance I refer to, roaming on a GSM network has EVERYTHING to do with keying in the correct code. I was merely pointing out that I followed instructions, that was incidental to the main point: that vodafone nz does not have an agreement for phone calls from my roaming vodafone.cz phones. Vodafone nz will allow only SMS.

sbiddle: Vodafone Czech list Vodafone NZ as a roaming partner if you look here
crichton: As I said, I'd like to see cooperation/consistency between Vodafone branches in different countries since they claim to be one big Vodafone family.

Wouldn't we all.
Vodafone should be one big happy family but unfortunately they aren't. One Vodafone was supposed to do a lot towards a global network but seemed to end up rather derailed.
crichton: "...you are right. We are really sorry but outgoing calls from Vodafone New Zealand network can make only our customers who use a SIM card with one of our tariff plans. Therefore we would like to apologize for previous incomplete answer.
If you are using Vodafone Card in New Zealand, you can only receive incomming calls and send or receive an SMS. This information can be also found here http://www.vodafone.cz/en/services/roaming/prepaid/partners.htm.

crichton:
Vodafone CZ actually offers specifically under the heading Prepay Card:
While abroad, you can call, receive calls, data and faxes, send and receive text messages. You can also listen to your messages in your Voice Mail. Services, such as SMS chat, SMS e-mail, Payments from a mobile phone, Logos, Ringtones & Pictures, MMS and Connect are not a problem when on the move.
And, they don't use the same faulty credit card system as used by Vodafone NZ. Instead Vodafone CZ allows card users to simply continue to use their prepay phone as it was intended:
Before you leave, make sure you have enough credit. Remember that once abroad, you’ll pay not only for outgoing, but also for incoming calls.
In other words, just top up your prepay credit. And it works in many countries around the world - but not in New Zealand. It's the 3rd world NZ Vodafone policy that's the problem. I wouldn't mind if I could give them credit card detail in order to let me make calls, but they simply say "no can do."
