After earlier issues this evening again things seem to be working fine again now.

Funny thing is I noticed it seemed to be affecting HTTP or port 80 traffic as well and other stuff seemed to be OK. While my system was timing out trying to browse numerous international sites I was on the phone using my Aussie VoIP account using SIP and had no problems at all with the phone call.

I've run the nzdsl speedtests too for the last couple of nights and found dismal performance (sub 5000kbit on a 10MBit plan), but my actual downloads from a USA server are actually faster than ever. Last week the down speeds were ~800KB/sec, and now they're ~1.20MB/sec sustained (flies in the face of my speedtest results). It's the first time I've seen my 10MBit connection sustain a download > 1MB/sec from anyone other than Microsoft and I've been on this plan for about a year now. I'm in Christchurch.

I'm happy to ignore my speedtest results for now since TCL has done something to boost my download speed by over 50%. Either that or the USA server has boosted its output, but either way, no complaints :)

And tonight I am not able to connect to any Microsoft domain (*.microsoft.com, *.live.com) or some other domains in the U.S, including the very important fark.com...

I can connect to microsoft at a good speed, and things in general are snappy. The amazon associates site was timing out earlier though. TC and amazon don't mix well, and using opendns (which I don't any more) it was really buggered.

Lets just hope this outage doesn't stretch to a 4th night - none existant interweb access in the evenings is getting very annoying.

The issue is definately only affecting port 80 HTTP traffic though and not all traffic.

I disagree, I think they rebooted a couple of fairly major pipes last night as I couldn't get anywhere or do anything outside nz.

it seems better now though.

While not being able to access any foreign websites (getting timeouts) I could still use my Australian VoIP provider with no issues.

I was only on the phone for around 15 mins so it could have been entirely out at a later stage. I did notice that around 3am connectivity seemed to be completely lost, I'm not sure how long that was for.

Reply from TC

Hi Tim, Yes we have identified a couple of issues over the last few nights. We have an issue currently under investigation with one of our wholesaler/upstream provider. We have a temporary solution in place at the moment and it resolved browsing issues last night (unfortunately around 4am). It appears just http traffic was going the slowest and all the traceroutes look fine. At the moment I would ask you to monitor this over the weekend and see if it persists. Should you need any further assistance, or if this does not solve your query, please let us know. Kind Regards, Anthony Thompson TelstraClear Customer Help

Maybe just a temporary aberration?  This is my speedtest at 6;15pm

This seems a bit better than before.

I only signed up for the 10Mbs plan because I needed 40Gb but with that cost I had expected significantly faster downloads. Not alway true alas

Larry
