and it was asking "request reply" Y or N, then would it still charge me if i say Y?
I have decided not to risk it as it used to be 20 cents before.

Request reply is a different feature!!

Delivery report is the feature!! No Cost

thanks for your reply once again, but I do not realise anything different, so what has changed? Do i need to set anything special? or it comes automatically?

depending on handset is how its worded under SMS message settings " delivery report "

It's FREE people, chill....

It'll be under 'delivery reports' in your txt settings. Phones differ. Some give you an actual text back when the message has been received by the recipients phone. Other phones just flash a confirmation up on your screen.

Most developed countries have had this since the dawn of GSM. Welcome to the 90's Vodafone.

I have tested and yes it is working for international txts too.

Not to all international networks, it seems -- can't get it to work for any of the German networks or one of the Maltese ones.

Even if it cost the same amount as another text message, it wouldn't matter if you were on TXT2000 and you didn't use all of your text's per month because it would just be another text in your TXT2000 allowance.

p.s. For anyone with a Nokia 6260 (or other series 60 Symbian phone), this function is located under:

1. Open 'menu'.
2. Open 'messages'.
3. Push the left soft key with the word 'options' above it.
4. Scroll down to 'settings'.
5. Enter 'settings' menu.
6. Enter 'text message' menu.
7. Scroll down to 'receive report'
8. Change to 'Yes'.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

However (please do not take it as a personal attack), i think that the first bit is confusing. That is, it is somehow creating a illuation (at least for me) that this service do cost something).
And it does matter, and I do personally text nearly 2000 every month and my friends are going over (so please do not make this assumption that people will not go over the limit)

Sure it's part of the GSM specs however there is only a small minority of networks anywhere in the world that have this feature enabled due to the increased traffic loads it causes on the network. Obviously as johnr pointed out Vodafone's new SMSR's are allowing them to impliment this feature without the issues it creates when they only had their old SMSC's.

This has always been available and enabled in Ireland. Ireland has roughly the same population as New Zealand and one of the highest mobile phone per capita saturation and text message usage in the world. However, delivery reports have never caused any problems with traffic. I don't accept any excuses from Vodafone that this would happen.

Hmm, turned on this feature on my SE V3XX and it then bumped the message format up to MMS.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
