I know there are other plans, but the 600 is the one most comparable to the telecom 500 texts in quantity, cross-networkness and price.

richms: Dont forget that the 500 texts deal is automatic, whereas the 600 on youchoose has to be added and paid for even if you dont send a single text

Very valid point - unlike you Choose addons where you have to figure out whether you are going to use them or not. The $10 text just kicks in after 50 text messages ($10).

Only use 10 text messages, just pay for $0.20 * 10 which can then be included in your $30 'credit' for the month.

The Telecom Flexi plans are still much better at present... especially for high-usage off-peak calling. none of that "returns to base rate" callsing when you use up the add-on minutes!

Remember Advantage? and off-peak advantage... those were that days...... they were excellent plans... adapted to the irregular usage, just like flexi.

Flexi is great, it adapts to my irregular (as everyones is) usage. the $30 commitment can be made up of any non-subscription service, ringtones, wap usage. music store, data overage charges etc. and if you go nuts one month (like I just did, due to family death and calling everyone) the off peak rate remains at 10c saving the sting.

Back in the talk plan days I had 2 sims running on talk 300 (may have been one 300 and one 200 - long time ago) - just to avoid the expensive calls once you were over the included minutes.

That was the thing that made me do my failed advertising standards complaint about the you choose rates being advertised, being so annoyed at it going back to the crap plan rates after using up the included ones.

Seems a bit of an iffy decision to me...  stick with the Get whatever plan I'm on and have a better (IMHO) range of phones to choose from, or go to a more flexible range of plans with not so nice (again IMHO) phones.  At least I wouldn't need to change my number nowadays.

We have changed to Telecom now.  Were not 100% sure, but Vodafone helped us make up our mines.

I gave Vodafone a call, after waiting for 10 minutes or so to talk so someone, I asked I explained our situation, and wondered if she was aware of any future plans that may help me out.  She advised me that it is available now, and it is You Choose 60, so I explained the requirements for around 200 off peak minutes to her again, to which I got told too add 300 off peak minutes to...
Upon explaining the price difference, she said people don’t want off just off peak minutes anymore, hence the reason they are not available, and if I was to be realistic, I don’t just want off peak minutes (or something to that effect)... I replied by saying well I do, and there is a requirement, after all Telecom are still offering off peak plans, so surely if they are, there must be still a requirement? Was told to go and get a Telecom Mobile then.... So with the advice of Vodafone, we now have a Telecom Mobile been sent to us, with the number scheduled to be ported middle of next week.

Looks like VFNZ's customer retention strategy is truly effective... the high heidyins at VF CHQ must be so proud.

Hmm, these do actually look quite good and would save me some dosh each month.  A bit off topic but would the 700wx be worth signing into a 24 month contract for?

Scratch this comment - going to new thread.

Don't you know? Vodafone know best about what you want your phone for!

For people with a desk job with a work phone on that desk sitting there for them to use at no cost to themselves for most of the time that is peak time, and the rest of it generally in traffic then on peak calling is worth stuff all. If they started offpeak a little earlier like 6 or so, it would be even less likely that people would make calls in peak times.

Vodafones solutions about having to buy a preset number of peak minutes each month, otherwise falling back to a crazy expensive rate shows just how out of touch they are with what people want.

That's exactly what I was talking about to my wife last night. Vodafone's Russel Stanners says they know better than YOU what YOUR needs are:

Billing is a key factor in bringing services to market; however, it’s not the only factor. Others include competitor activity, priorities for investment and our view of customers’ needs by segment.

However

In two years I would like to see Vodafone continue to grow into the total market. We would define success as meeting more and more of our customers’ needs. We see ourselves as a mobile company that’s now focussed on meeting our customers’ total needs. Mobility, however, is still the key.

It is completely incredible to me that mobile companies (Telecom, Vodafone, and any other) offer locked down plans, with locked contracts giving users so little choice. Of course there are plenty of choices in terms of add-ons, but those are the ones convenient for the mobile operator.

Why don't they create a simple plan? Why make things so complicate? Why on peak calls have different prices depending on the plan you are, seeing that resources used are all the same?

Yes, yes, I know about erlangs, queueing theory, traffic management and more. But still strikes me as obtuse.

It would be intersting to get some statistics on this, as my personal needs are differen't to the ones I see here, I have no use for off peak calling (I can't even remember the last off peak call I made) my voice use is peak only, off peak I txt. So a Choose 120 with TXT 600 is the perfect option for me and should I require off peak calling in the future (even for 1 month) I can just add it, simple. :)

Personally I think the You Choose plans offer me the best value for my money.

This is the same for alot of my freinds, no off peak calling just txt.

But you have to add the addon before you want it, and then remember to remove it before being billed again. Wouldnt it be a hell of a lot simpler if it was there if you made an offpeak call, but if you didnt, then you didnt pay for it?
