rokki: Hi TimA what do we have to do to get the Vodafone TV with Sky, wait for the website to say call now or can we prebook ?

You can give us a call or get a call back, Vodafone TV is for UFB. (this is what this thread is relating to) www.chorus.co.nz/maps

Thanks

Jas777: To further confuse the situation. If SKY has access to a channel that is in HD but they only show in SD National Geographic for example will Vodafone show it in HD? Or is it more likely there is both a SD and HD feed and they purchase just SD so Vodafone can only show in SD?

If NatGeo delivers to us in HD we deliver to you in HD no extra cost.
Like Mike said there is no compression of content on UFB.

Cheers

Except that NatGeo doesn't deliver to you in HD because your content provider is still sky.

My question is... I am in a cable area that is also supported by fibre.  Will VF swap me to fibre for my current cable services.  The answer in the past would have been no.

SKY may be receiving in HD but transmitting over their satellite service compressed to save bandwidth.
I would safely bet that NatGeo is one of the channels that is in full HD.

Hi TimA I am on UFB with Vodafone and I tried calling a few days ago and was told it was only for people in Wellington on Telstra Network.

Well actually this thread when created by me was meant as Vodafone TV on Cable not UFB but then I'm confused about what UFB means in the context of this thread as it seems to be alternatively referring to Fibre or Ultra-Fast Broadband :)

What about the question I asked?
I am in a cable area that is also supported by fibre.  Will VF swap me to fibre for my current cable services.  The answer in the past would have been no (For ADSL).  If you were in a cable area you had to go on cable.

Asked in a few threads now but the UFB lists Chch and Chch is Enable for UFB. Does the new Fibre plans include Enable areas?

There was a list floating around on the internet of the ISP's and what towns/cities they operated in, I am not sure about Vodafone having UFB in wellington. We have Whangarei, Auckland, Dunedin from what i recall. (I am not referring to cable under UFB, Chorus/Northpower/Enable/Waikato Fibre i am referring to)

Nor am I referring to cable (which I am currently on) or even Wgtn. I am referring to UFB Fibre as supplied by Chorus/Enable etc in NZ as part of a government rollout and which I am still trying to find out what these new plans actually are. On the Vodafone site they list Chch but then all reference here goes on to talk about Chorus. Christchurch is supplied by Enable. I have Fibre to my new home and its is supplied by Enable.

There is a good post here on who the backend providers are
http://ufb.org.nz/broadband-providers/

I would much prefer to leave my $300 plus a month business with vodafone/tbox but these plans are so hard to follow/get clarity on that its looking like Snap/Sky for me. At least i am lucky enough not to need to move everything before the new year so hopefully by then its all much clearer and less marketing speak.

Edit - Just rechecked the page and they have removed Chch now. Ah well looks like it will be Snap/Sky.

UFB will be HD ticket included.

The HD channels will be the same ones that are currently being transmitted in HD on cable.

For a list please refer too....  HD identified by the HD after the name.

NatGeo will remain SD as SKY receive it as SD.

Yes, Sky receive in SD and transmit in ultra low definition. Transmission of Nat Geo's HD stream in SD is exactly what Fellet wished to do (so they could advertise as available in HD) and Nat Geo said no. The official Nat Geo SD service is different content.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Hi Damian,

Can I ask where you got this information from??
The VF rep seems to think you will get additional HD channels under UFB.

Cheers
Kirk.

There is no additional HD channels on UFB.

You get HD 'as standard' for Sky Sports, ESPN and Sky Movie Channels.  (ie: the 'HD Ticket' comes automagically with the TV subscription on UFB).

You will require a valid Sky Sport or Sky Movie Package subscription to see those channels.

HD Pay Per View movie channels are available to all UFB TV subscribers, purchase is required to view ($6.95 SD and $7.95 HD) and there's a 24 hour viewing period for purchased movie titles.

Cheers,
Grant

Thanks for clearing that up Grant.  I know there has been a bit of confusion around this with different VF rep's giving different answers.  I will post a link to this on the other thread that people are asking on.

Cheers
Kirk.
