I use Google maps and Now frequently. I've conclusively proved it was Google play, as disabling it in application management stops off the nlpcollector and nlpwakelock instantly.

I was so frustrated I just Factory reset today, been good so far... #knock on wood. Just one wakelock issue for Google plus, camera monitor crashed... yeah, I can see fully why people get Apples.

I don't doubt what you say on your phone but it isn't an issue on mine on Kitkat nor was it on JB but also I've not been on stock since i bought S4 .

NLP stands for network location provider so I would think that something is searching your location and not sure why google play would do that but haven't read up on it. I turn location on and off as needed so maybe why i don't get the wakelocks like you. I have had google now off since I found it killoing my battery but can't recall the wakelock it used I'll switch it on and monitor betterbatterystats.

Have found a lot of discussion and this one sounds interesting and worth some thought as it would suggest play services is a big culprit.

jeffnz: I don''t think knox will be an issue unless you are concerned about it showing itsb been flashed or you want to go back to a 4.2 rom.

The echoe rom of kitkat can be sued without knox bootloader but wifi doesn't work so you need to flash knox bootloader for it to work .

It's been a while since I read about it, but my impression was once it's on Knox going to custom ROMs, rooting, etc, is all going to be more difficult. Am I incorrect?

Thanks jeffnz, I found that thread too after a bit of googling for potential causes and after much frustration it resolved it until I reboot and then they come back with a vengeance again.

So far with it on, I've noticed it came on when I was using Google Maps to guide me somewhere. However, it's come on this morning for no apparent reason. (only 141 times in an hour.) I might try uninstalling Apps 1 at a time and see if it's something like Facebook. I really hope it's not hardware related it's been doing it since I bought the phone but the first thing I performed was a backup restore, so I need to eliminate the Apps first.

Anyway, kinda hijacking my own thread here! Thanks for your help.

I forgot to mention that I use greenify as well and it shuts down selected apps like facebook that have a tendancy to switch on and talk to each other. You need to be rooted though but it works very well.

From memory I think Greenify works with non-rooted phones now, though I think it's a bit more limited.

Not that i am aware of Tim but I haven't done a lot of reading only monitoring a few Kitkat threads. There has been the odd one that has wifi issues but i think that is more to do with the flashing of the modem.

post 1507 has some interesting information purported to be from Samsung that Knox does not effect the hardware only the know package itself.

I'm not sure how much of all this is really an issue as I'm guessing when they found out flashing increased the count and then found a way round it, that it now makes no differance to flashing.
