Jaxar: Hi, Welcome to the forums. Looks like this problem is well on the way to being cleared up. Thought I would add my 2 cents and clear up the confusion about how the Telecom Sales person tested your neighbors line but the VF faults tech could not.

The VF faults tech would have been using a tool that checks the actual stats on the line. He can do this as you are a VF customer. The Telecom sales person would have been using a tool which doesn't do an actual test but pulls some info from a database and gives some estimates. These estimates can often be wrong for example my personal internet connection is a good 5Mbit faster than the sales' tool estimate.

We also have access to the tool that sales person would of used.

Hi there guys, sorry about the delayed update on this issue.

On Tuesday, two Chorus technicians came here. They ran a line test outside and amazingly enough they detected an "earthing" issue with my line (although at least 3 other technicians had been here and tested the line and found that everything was ok).

Have found that they then tested the drop line to the house and that seemed fine. Upon opening the ETP they saw that the cabling going into the roof was corroded. Then they asked to go and have a look in my ceiling and then after that they would chat with me about any costs involved.

In the ceiling they found this:

Well. After have had a look there the older one of the two asked the younger fellow to check something ( some sort of coding) to see if this was chargeable or not, and the young fellow came back and said it was not chargeable (to me that is), so they said they would get it sorted.

They used about 5 meters of CAT6 from ETP to the first jack point closest to the ETP ( turns out that I was correct and I am in a daisy chain system).

That seemed to have fixed the issues I had and now I can actually get VDSL (and the most important of all I got internet and a phone line now), I am just waiting on the modem to get delivered and to the technicians come here again to get it all ready to get going.

Well I will keep you guys posted.

Cheers

G

NeedInf:

(speedtest of 8Mpbs)

Which is interesting as when I had line problems I got over 11 mbps

Don't rely on Speedtest as far as telling you your sync speed.  Check your actual sync speed (from the modem/router).

Hi there,

Yeah, it is over 10mbps.

Cheers.

Yeah. It is such a shame that in a place like NZ we still have those kinds of issues. Although my ceiling had just been re-insulated and new "power wiring" had been put in I was not made aware that probably phone line should also be changed as previous owner said that internet and phone services were working ok.

I am so glad I knew about this site for several years now and that I finally decided to register.

Well.

Will try to be more of a member of this website now

Cheers.

Further more, one person's "working OK", especially where Internet is concerned, is another person's "totally crap" :)
