freitasm: Right, after this report I decided to try Unblock-Us again on Vodafone cable... And it's working as reported. Tried with my laptop only and it worked, then changed the router DNS and it worked on my tablet as well.

Cool. I'm coming back now :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Not so fast... I have done some tests here and while it works, there's the caveat of impacting on your overall browsing experience. The best approach is to use the geo DNS only on the devices you really need accessto these services. For example I have this on my HTPC now and it works "ok".

The problem is that Akamai servers are just a 5 ms away for cable users because they seem to get a local (Vodafone) address. As soon I stated using unblock-us the Akamai servers were 240ms away - in Japan!

Some content failed to load as it would take to long and timeout. For example try using NSLOOKUP and find a.adroll.com using unblock-us DNS and using the TelstraClear DNS. They will be different addresses - one inside Vodafone network or pretty close, the other in Japan.

While unblock-us now seems to work on Vodafone cable it will introduce some problems with pages loading slower than before or some elements not loading at all.

Hola is ok, most of the times. Also most of the times it will have problems accessing services so I uninstalled it before.

After uninstall it left thing behind that needed manual removal including driver attached to network adapter and a virtual adapter.

I used hola.org for a while and it works, it is free but sometimes it is blocked. Using unblock-us now but still has problems on cable, although I have it only on HTPC now instead of router. Witopia is good but not very fast (I still have a sub to the service). ITwin is good and faster than others.

Unblock-us is best on HTPC because it is transparent, people don't need to plug a device (iTwin) ot find an application to connect (Witopia).

I use Unblock-us on my laptop and iPad and it works well enough with high quality after a slow start. I also have a sub to witopia but I dislike having to turn it on/off for local websites.

How does iTwin work?
