The 3GB was only ever a promo. People complained back then, now people complaining again!

NikT: The go-to 4G plan we've been suggesting through social media channels for folks still on the grandfathered Smart deals is the $29 open term + the 2GB for $30 add-on for a total of 150 mins, unlimited texts, & 2.5GB for $59. If more data is required, additional 500MB blocks are $10 a pop with Flexi Data, & if more minutes are required, $10 doubles it to 300.

Plenty of other options, of course, but for those who're chiefly data-hungry, this one's a good one. :)

But again - compare this to the original grandfathered plan:

Suggested plan: $59.00
unlimited txt
2.5GB data
150 min

Old plan: $41.00
2500 txt
1000 pxt
60 min
1 x best mate
3Gb data

So - for $18 extra I get more txtx than I could possibly use, no pxtx, 500MB less data and an additional 90min call time

Personally (as discussed and agreed with the CSR at VF), I just don't see the value, inless I am getting a massive phone subsidy...

The data on smart plans was a promo, it was not part of the actual plan so it's wrong to compare them. Looking at the plans side by side for $39 now you get better value than what you got for $41 previously. Vodafone actually did pull the extra data, but were forced to reinstate it due to a huge backlash against it.

If you don't see the value in moving then clearly the current plan is the best one to be on.

It won't matter how loudly you complain, you're still not going to get 4G on your grandfathered plan. There have been people complaining a lot louder than you over the past few months.

I'm with you. I'm on Smart 1 and have yet to see a plan that's worth changing for. 3GB of data with 60 mins tt and 1 best mate for $40 is the best plan IMO. Shame it's not still available for others.

I agree too, been on the smart1 for a while now, would love 4G but why spend more and get less???

To give vodafone their due, they did allow HDvoice over 3G, they could just as easily used it to sweeten the deal for people moving to 4G.

Between my wife and I HD voice makes a massive difference, and I really appreciate the ability to use it.

Nothing is going to change the plan it's been Grandfathered / EOL, This has been advised more than once in this thread

It is not going to access to the 4G / LTE network

I can't clear things up much more than that

Yep If you like that plan - stick with it.

You've got a very capable phone - you've probably noticed that with dual-carrier 3G, that coverage and speed is much improved wherever Vodafone has upgraded the tower to 4G.
If not - check it out.

I'm in the same position as OP - Smart1 with lifelong 3GB of data, despite this coming up 3 years ago, I still haven't seen anything even close to it since (not even promotional deals!) which is a bit of a rip off - Perhaps JohnR can shed some more light on this? Why haven't we got any new any good deals with data?

That being said. I was downloading at 4.6 megabytes a second off of my 3G connection so I'm hardly complaining!

People tend to place different personal markers on what they perceive as 'value'. Your 3GB may be huge value for you, but for most of our customers (trust me, we do market research on this stuff) it's unused and unwanted. They want other stuff, which is why different deals come up at different times.

Because mobile data is where the money is going to be for carriers. Skype, SIP VOIP, Viber etc. are all eating away at traditional voice and transferring that to data.

If mobile carriers want a slice of the pie they are going to have get a larger chunk from data....

That's crazy. But you're right thinking about it.

I know the other argument is JohnR's favourite comparions - "many cars on the motorway = noone going anywhere fast" argument by opening up the bandwidth.

I hope this change with the popularity amongst the teens of apps like "Whatsapp" using data for communication and Android cameras for sharing photos immediately.

In the meantime, I (and OP) will have to wait.
