A cable jackpoint is normally installed rather than just shoving a length of coax through! Sorry if you had an ugly install in the past, the techs can be quite accommodating (in my experience) if you explain what you'd like where. :)

Yes, but it's not technically delivered over coax, it's delivered over their copper PSTN network.

I would assume that you could get a VOIP number from the provider of your choice, and run that over the cable network?

Hammerer: It's pretty rough being on Vodafone cable and having nothing worth complaining about. I checked the speed just in case and even that has improved since last year.

You sure can. As Steve notes, this is through exTCL copper, and uses the existing phone jacks in a house when other cable services are installed.

Every HFC line comes with 2x copper pairs attached to the sheath.... if you order phone+tv/Internet, a copper pair is separated from the sheath and connected into the back of your master socket. This is done by DISCONNECTING the chorus line. If you want a second line (very rare I think these days), you have a second pair available.

Meanwhile the Coax line is connected to wherever you ask for it to be connected, terminating in a f-connector normally screwed to the skirting board... thats where you connect cable modem, t-box etc. Works well in practise and means most installs can be done in 1-2 hours depending on underfloor access etc...

Never heard it being called clothed (presume you mean a pots phone line), then yes. Definitely not naked.

I signed up for Ultrafast Cable 130/10 yesterday on the understanding (from the person in the shop who checked my address) that I'd be getting Huawei HG659 modem/wireless router. However, in an earlier post on this thread NikT says you get the Cisco DPC3008 DOCSIS3.0 cable modem on this plan.

Can someone clarify what hardware I'll actually be getting? During the signup process I checked a box that says Wireless Broadband Homehub. I'm pretty confident the Cisco DPC3008 DOCSIS3.0 cable modem is neither wireless nor a router...

Vodafone don't do themselves any favours by selling both Cable broadband and Fibre broadband under the name UFB. Two very different products.

I think you get both - the Cisco modem is essentially a media converter, converting coax to ethernet, then the Huawei router (not modem) takes the ethernet and shares it across ethernet and wireless.

I can see why they are branding them as UFB - although they are very different physical products - but they deliver essentially the same result - much faster broadband than standard ADSL - hence UFB

You'll be getting the Cisco DPC3008 & a standalone wireless router (Likely the Netcomm NF5).

Sorry about the confusion, the online order wizards were built for both fibre & cable, so they make references to HomeHubs & wireless modems which aren't for cable. I've been getting a few of those references tidied up recently & hope to have it ironed out in the near future. :)

Hi NikT, thanks for the quick response. Pretty disappointing though - no AC wireless or dual band with the Netcomm compared to the Huawei. Plus, the slight inconvenience of 2 device rather than one. VF really need to make this clearer on the site.
