I have been having issues all afternoon again, so i called Vodafone and after spending over 2 hours on hold and talking to their tech support apparently there is absolutely nothing wrong, despite the fact that everyone in my area that i know on Vodafone cable have been having issues with packet loss for the last 8 or so weeks. I guess the question now is how can i actually talk to someone at Vodafone who isn't reading from a script and actually wants to help solve this issue or at least figure out what is happening.

I guess the alternative to that is changing to another service provider.

I've been having issues for the past few months as well (Cable, North New Brighton, Christchurch). Particularly bad tonight.

I've been monitoring with Smokeping for a while. You can see ping times and loss to the HFC gateway here (they obviously deprioritse ICMP but shows a gateway under heavy load):

And to google.co.nz here:

In the 10 day plot for the gateway you can see the periodic nature of the latency spikes and it clearly getting worse over even the last 10 days. I've been monitoring the gateway from either side (i.e., from the cable side and from an external network) and it looks exactly the same so is definitely the gateway with load issues.

Did you insist a fault ticket is logged and passed to the next level of support?

I logged a fault a couple of weeks ago and got told that they don't offer any guarantee on speed or QoS. At the time I was experiencing ~20% loss which she said was perfectly fine.

The person on the phone said he couldn't since there is no evidence of any issues (hahaha), so they would just throw the ticket out.

But you are having issues or you would not have called,

Clearly the issue here is now that TimA isn't at Vodafone they don't have his Bigpipe 70Mbps VDSL line for backhaul anymore hence all this packet lost due to congestion....

Just spoken to the NOC and they have advised of a fibre cut / damage impacting traffic and also the weather has caused some other issues

Exactly, do you know if that upgrade you mentioned before would help with the congestion if that's the issue here?

The reason for the upgrades is to remove the congestion impacting customers

Sorry to hijack this post, but can anybody on Vodafone Cable network access this URL http://www.progresstalk.com/. I know it's working with SNAP Internet.

I getting major packet loss and Pages timing out.

Thanks.

I haven't seen any problems until tonight. Particularly bad, with a few sites not loading or taking long to load... May or may not be related, but it is what it is.
