My family member had the exact same problem. It went on for months, uploading huge amounts of data when all devices was turned off and while they were all at work. I took my own initiative to troubleshoot this myself as Vodafone told them that their computer was infected. Well.. after a testing devices at a time (by having them disconnected a few days at a time) the problem still persisted.

I then reset the router back to factory default, reconfigured it and enabled firewall. Since that very minute, no more huge upload data was being transferred.

Then.. to our surprise, all four ethernet ports died and I could not get any computer connected to the router. D-Link deemed it fault thus we got a replacement.

For us, two things... router was uploading possibly due to the DNS attack as mentioned above.. or.. the router was really on its way out and did something that was surprising. I would go with the former.

Hi everyone, I realised thanks to someone's post that I should update this thread. The upload issue seems to have resolved itself somewhat - we still get unidentified usage but it's nowhere near the level that it used to be.

Instead now, we have huge amounts of downstream traffic, always between 12 and 1 am (though with pockets in early morning hours) ranging from 300 mb to almost 3 gb.

I've done the DNS test which returned " did not find an open DNS resolver running."

I'm just about to bite the bullet and go to the unlimited plan because I'm sick of having to worry about turning off our router and dealing with the issue. I know that there are a few people that have the downstream traffic issue as well, but it doesn't seem like it's widespread enough to warrant a response from Vodafone.

Is anyone else having erratic data troubles with the Vodafone cable service in Wellington?

Hoping that this thread might be useful to anyone else having issues, and thanking those people who have offered their help - it's greatly appreciated.
