rokki: Just got off the phone with Vodafone Assurance and it is chorus screwing things up again. Same company that came out one day and told me I should be happy with an ADSL download speed of 1mb. It took me two months to get them to eventually go back to the exchange and actually check out what was going on. Low and behold their was a problem with my port and then magically the speed went back to 14mb down. In my opinion Telecom and its various subsideries have had a monopoly for to long. They have ripped other ISP's off on wholesale pricing etc etc. Yet they still exist. It is so frustrating.

" Telecom and its various subsideries "

How is Telecom / Spark related to Chorus?

Hi John http://thestandard.org.nz/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-chorus-deal/ still the way I see it sorry can't refer to them as Spark seems a dumb name to me will always be Telecom.

My beef is that we are going backwards here not forwards. I don't care about the price drop was happy with current price.

So you link to a left wing rag who can't even get the facts right:

"It is basically an offshoot from Telecom that looks after New Zealand’s telecommunications network infrastructure."

No, Chorus and Spark/Telecom are two separate entities - repeating the same half baked drivel multiple times doesn't magically make it true.

Again, Chorus and Spark/Telecom and two separate entities - keep repeating until it sinks in.

Ok I concede may information may be incorrect on further checking.

Vodafone doesn't appear to offer to retail at least any faster than 20mb up to retail customers so this is my beef I guess.

Telecom created Chorus as a separate business unit in 2008, in 2011 it was split from Telecom into a separate company. Although if you dig far enough Telecom/Spark still rears it's head. The reason for the split was to let Tel..er Chorus roll out most of the UFB fibre network as this was in the contracts when they won the bid.

Telecom AKA Spark AKA Spark Digital AKA Spark Ventures AKA Bigpipe AKA Chorus AKA Skinny among others...

Well having now read the 2013 Telecom Financial Report they are a little closer than I would like they share systems and lease from each other.

We can have our own opinions but insulting a company because you don't agree to them getting away from the past and diving into the future is quite frankly, childish. Call them by their name (Spark) or don't quote them at all. There are plenty of people on these forums who got some abuse for the name change so we don't need to see any more. Spark is here to stay and calling them by their old name when you know full well what their real name is in my opinion is insulting.

All retail providers lease off Chorus and in 2013 they really got full gear into a full system separation as part of the re-eng project. Whilst some systems may be still shared there is no real other way of separating these systems without an insane amount of cost and also it has been over a year since these reports were publicised.

Unless if you know 100% the full workings inside Spark and Chorus (of which, you don't based on your comments) I think you should step back a bit and think what kind of community you're speaking to. There is no reason at all to be angry with Spark so show them and their staff members the respect they actually deserve. Also your topic is about Vodafone and not Spark so stay on topic. Thanks.

Yes you have some points and I suppose having been at the recieveing end of all that was bad from both prior entities that incurred financial cost to me , may leave me a little burnt. So I shall pack up my toys and look at other options.

But it is chorus who have changed the plan they sell to to whoever and not Vodafone.

The above was my last post on the mater.

The amount of misinformation in this thread is outstanding.

Chorus has nothing to do with Spark. There was a structural separation even before the companies parted ways.

I am locking this discussion because it will go nowhere.
