Can't get it working on my Nokia E5 either.

I miss Cell Info Display. I guess the Lumias don't support it :(

I miss this. I used to get a really good laugh. When I had an old Nokia 5220i (that water proof mother of a brick) used to report I was on the Kamo Cell Tower when I was actually in Maunu!

You can also follow me on twitter here @kiwifortw I do twitch streams every now and then at twitch.tv/kiwiforthewin :)

Hehe, reminds me of the weird cellsites I used to pick up all over Wellington when I lived there. At my stepmum's (old) place on top of the hill in Miramar, she would get Kaiwhara. At work near the WestpacTrust stadium I'd see Lower Hutt or Kelburn. And the most interesting of all - walking around past Lyall Bay towards Island Bay (the bottom of the North Island) I'd see Seddon, Ward and Blenheim. Once while walking the same route, I picked up a signal from Clarence - around 115kms away!

Question is why have they decided to enable it now? What benefit does it now add to the business to spend money on a project to enable it?

Feature was paid for a number of years ago

Depends on the handset and if it supports NITZ on packet switch and it does work I just tested it

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I guess this is not true NITZ then as it's actually suppose to be able to work on phones without a data connection...

It is true NITZ but we have only enabled it on the packet switch side for now

This service was crack up,
It worked on my old android phone before it got canned but I turned it off cause it didn't show on the screen like it did with dumb phones it actually came though in text messages which was annoying.

''For now'' sounds like you will have it working without Packet Data in time, maybe someone can update this post when that happens :)

Fair call. But VF still would have dedicated a PM and a few engineers to get it up and running.
I am not saying it is a bad call, just curious as to whats in the pipe line that requires this? Or is it just to satisfy boring roaming deal conditions with overseas telcos?

I had no idea this wasn't enabled already haha...

It explains a lot though, this will make things easier on those rare occasions it's needed ^^
