I found out today that TCL cable internet to the US is going through Hong Kong since Friday.
Have a call logged with Vodafone as my latency to the World of Tanks servers has jumped from 170ms to 310ms.
I may have to move to another provider.

Reason I mention this is because I saw your traceroute appears to do the same.

Routing keeps changing all the time to optimize network performance for the type of traffic that 95% of the users use.

True, but sub-optimal routing has never sat well with anyone.
Especially those using latency sensitive applications.

I find it hilarious that to get to the East coast of the US it goes direct to the US, whereas the West coast traffic goes via Hong Kong. Resulting in the East servers having low latency than the West.

It doesn't also sit well with me that China now have oversight of our US destined traffic. They don't exactly have a great record of respecting peoples privacy. A conspiracy theorist may suggest that Vodafone is assisting China in Commercial/Political espionage.

PS - All ISPs toggle routing all the time. Routing over the interwebs keeps changing.. it's the nature of the beast.

So now US East and Australian traffic is now going through Hong Kong.
Pretty much ruined my online gaming. Complained to Vodafone again.
I know how BGP (internet routing protocol) works but since it is out of my control it makes me furious.

I've been on VF high speed cable (100/10Mbps) for 2 years at the same Wellington address. No wiring or hardware changes.

Over the last week I've noticed a marked drop in speeds to the East and West coasts of the USA.

All speeds via ethernet, OOKLA, best result of all local servers:

AUCKLAND ping 18, 99/10 Mbps - no change
SYDNEY       ping 43, 99/10 Mbps - no change

LA   ping 148, 20/4 Mbps - way down!
NY   ping 216, 23/4 Mbps - way down!

Same problem here. Haven't had a smooth streaming experience in weeks. So from what I've read here from John, It seems like this won't be treated as a fault therefore won't be getting fixed? Could you please confirm that this is not seen as an issue John?
