You are so lucky! I live in Casebrook, Christchurch, in an area which looks like it should have 4G according to the map, but there's also an area that doesn't show 4G quite close by... I've NEVER had 4G at home or where I work, but I do get 4G when I'm away from home... Might try Spark later this year when my contract expires, but I'm not sure that will be any better!

Most 4G / LTE in the cities is on band3 1800Mhz so the signal from these sites don't have as far reach as the rural sites on band28 700Mhz

Why do people even say this?

I think a lot of people forget that mobile broadband is a limited resource, and just expect everything to be unlimited.

That said, would be nice if it was possible to buy larger chunks of data to be able to use mobile broadband for more than when you are out and about.

100 GB packages is not uncommon in many countries for example.

I remember when Spark rolled out XT and (from memory) you could get 12GB of data. Even a plan like that would be good, but I don't think it's around anymore.

As to unlimited data on 3G/4G? The entire mobile network would come to a screaming halt. Forget it, it's never going to happen.

Dialup and mobile broadband are completely different technologies. Dialup used very small amounts of data and it tied up your line (not like you could also use it for voice calls at the same time). You can use a lot more data, more quickly, with mobile broadband and it's also used for voice. The most I ever heard of anyone doing in a month over dialup was around 2GB. With some of the mobile data speeds today you could use that much up in a day. Imagine what it would be like if someone connected a T-Stick and downloaded 1TB in a month. Goodbye anyone else trying to use the network for anything.
Yes, it is a fact - you will never see unlimited mobile broadband data. Nothing to do with network providers "not getting their sh!t together" - it's about keeping the mobile networks stable and working.

In Norway there are several that provide it. The biggest, owned by swedish Telia, is Netcom. Here is a Google translated version of their mobile broadband for home page.
599 NOK is the roughly $105 NZD.

Here is a company in Denmark, their biggest package is 200 GB and cost $50 NZD per month. You can actually use of this package on your tablet, mobile and your home mobile router.
(sorry, wasn't able to get Google to give me a translate link for this one).

You can get lots more data on RBI Wireless; e.g. 400GB (200peak + 200off-peak) for $199 per month. http://www.ultimatebroadband.co.nz/rbi-wireless.html But if you make this too cheap and allow in the urban areas, the cell-sites would get slammed big time.

Perhaps Norway / Denmark have a large Pico cell deployment?
