Vodafone cable works perfectly. It seems the Kapiti congestion is a localised problem - I haven't heard of anything about getting it fixed though.

In Johnsonville if we want fast broadband this is the option - no VDSL and fibre planned for next year only.

I have been using cable since Chello back in 98/99. All these years I had very few problems, probably less than one every second year or so. TelstraClear (and then Vodafone) did have problems with their cache farm but this seems to be solved now. Other than this, Netflix and other services work really well and I can't complain about speed overall.

But hope to never have to contact their support.

Chello only existed from around 2000-2001, it was gone by 2002 at the latest (from memory).

I have the impression it was around at least in 99, when I moved to Khandallah and had it installed.

Hmm, I don't remember it, and I was at Paradise in 1999. That was only cable offering then.

Edit, did some research and it looks like it wasn't even here for 12 months...

@ OP

The Good:
Vodafone cable is a fantastic service and the reps on GZ and other forums, are very helpful.

The Bad:
Pricing structure / changes, are dubious.
Call centre... abysmal.
Vodafone NZ management... clueless.  (CEO's last year perhaps if the parent company themselves are smart)

I myself will be watching to see what happens this year, leading up to the end of my contract.

I just signed up for 12 months.

At the end of the day the offering was better than Telecom VDSL in terms of speed and land line calling and it was $30 cheaper per month.

I've requested my landline number be ported from Telecom to Vodafone.

Is there anything else I need to do?  Cancel my Telecom landline and broadband?

I got mixed advice from both companies.  Vodafone said I'd need to cancel my broadband with Telecom but not my landline because the landline would cancel when it is ported.  However Telecom said there's no need to cancel anything as all services will automatically be cancelled when the number is ported.

As you have been with Telecom AKA Spark for two years, I presume that you no longer have a contract with Spark.

If you don't have a contract, I would just let the ISPs sort it out between them.
If you do have a contract, then there could be an Early Termination Fee and you should contact Spark.

Yep I've been with Telecom for years and years so should be well out of contract.  I'll leave it up to the ISPs to sort, I'm sure they'll do a good job LOL

The vodafone cable install occurred yesterday.

So far I'm impressed with the performance.  Last night it got the ultimate test, I had two kids on Netflix on their tablets, the wife on youtube, I was watching streaming sports (all in HD) and my NAS was downloading a file at 4MB/s.  It all chugged along very nicely without a hiccup, something I couldn't do on my VDSL connection.

Fingers crossed I never have to call the support line :-)

Oh and in case you're wondering we don't normally spend our nights ignoring each other on our various devices, it just happened to work out that way last night :-)
