Apsattv: Still very poor coverage at Hallam cove, about 20 houses there with zero to 1 bar signals

And is the low / poor coverage in this general location reflected on the coverage map?

This thread is about a new coverage map not the building of new sites to cover 20 new houses

Nice work, even more helpful the link to upgrade my browser http://browsehappy.com
*Was running one of my VM's lightweight un-bloated browsers when visiting Vodafones map

I like the map, although on the old one the intensity of colouring varied based on the signal strength. When I look at this one I get the feeling I should get a full signal everywhere that's coloured (which I know isn't the case).

Yes. It almost feel like this map was run by the marketing team before release and now its significantly less useful. Due to its more binary nature (coverage or no coverage) its definitely overly optimistic compared to the old one and areas that have poor coverage. Especially with the fact you can get significant differences in signal strength on different handsets and devices, i feel this is a step backwards.

Now for vodafone coverage in an area especially when going out in the bush, i'll be making guesstimates based on tower locations on http://gis.geek.nz/infrastructure.html

The area is shown but there is no actual data on the expected signal levels. Perhaps another overlay could be added for that? along with marking the actual tower sites on the map?

ALTRON: Is there really THAT much 700Mhz 4G available now?

Seems like the map has a glitch. I think the 700 button is showing all 4G, i.e. 1800+700 (and maybe +2600 too).

Dont think so, try over somewhere like Featherston and zoom in/out enough to see Kapiti coast, you can see 3G and non 4G 700 turn off when you toggle them.

Look in areas like Wellington / Auckland. There is a lot of area that there is no 700, only 1800, but the 700 tab shows coverage. The 4G tab is showing only 1800 (and maybe 2600), but the 4G 700 tab is showing 700 + 1800 coverage. Have a look at Ngaruawahia, Waikato, this ia 1800 only, but is showing on both 4G and 4G 700 tabs.

I guess it could also be interpreted that the 4G 700 tab is all 4G including 700.

Yes, I noticed the same thing in our area around the Bay of Islands.  By looking at the RSM website I can see where 700MHz is being transmitted.  At present, it's only in a few locations compared to 1800MHz.  Yet the '4G 700' tab currently includes many areas that are 1800 only.  Rather misleading IMO.

I also concur about the 'Binary' nature of the new maps.  Whilst they are pretty, some of the previously available information on signal strength has been lost.

Just by changing the mapping design, vodafone NZ now give the impression they have a strong signal were ever they have a signal. It looks good but not really realistic.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure there is no 700 MHz coverage in the hutt valley or Wellington CBD from real world usage and
http://gis.geek.nz/infrastructure.html

The map should really display what coverage there actually is.

Misleading.

Maybe a grid overlay option could be added showing small boxes with a number 0 to 5 a rough estimated bars signal level? another idea would be community contributed overlay where users could tag locations with a reception report such as signal in bars, phone used and a user comment.

Looks like they have fixed the 700 issue by adding a little "+" symbol, so is now 4G (+700) :)
