That's very interesting! Vodafone's site explicitly says that you *need* Vodafone broadband (contrast with the Vodafone TV page which only heavily implies it - apparently it too can actually be used with any ISP*). So it seems that the site is wrong, but I can't see Vodafone being in any rush to update it!

*Only for Freeview, I believe; the T&Cs do say that you need to be with Vodafone for Sky channels.

The Sure Signal cluster is part way thru a major upgrade end to end, The old kit was EOL anyway

Is 4G Sure Signal coming? :)

What benifit would a 4G SureSignal bring? If you're in range of your SureSignal, You're going to be in range of your home wifi which is cheaper than your mobile data?
Also...connecting to the SureSignal at 150mbits just for it to be slowed down by your home DSL/Internet.

I'm not sure if the current SS support HD voice?

Am I going to risk turning mine off, and then be phone-less for an unspecified amount of time ?

Is it working now or not, If ' yes ' then why would you need to re-power the unit?

I am confused sorry

No, it was my neighbours SS that wouldn't connect, mine has been OK, as I haven't switched it off. It was the issue of "if turned off, it may have problems reconnecting back to the SS service"

You should be OK but advise your neighbour to re-power their unit now

Hi John,

I started this thread.... my situation now...

2 X Sure signals

Office one works fine.

Home one does not.

LED's are exactly the same on both.

Home one was reset by holding the button for 30 sec's as per CS call, but that has not helped.

Office one has been moved to home on the same power supply and ethernet cable and rebooted, works just fine at home.

We're on Vodafone broadband.

Called CS today and was told that I should not have been told to reset my modem by the last CS rep as the server will not give the unit new software till the 29th May.

CS has agreed to credit my account for a month of service so that I can offset putting in a 2talk voip line for the next 10 days till my sure signal is back.

John, your last comments looked like the server might be back up. Any suggestions?

CS was reluctant to send a new unit as they said that it would not work until the 29th.

CS still adamant that only ONE SureSignal can be used on one xDSL broadband connection, tried this still no joy with one unit only.

Regards
Mac

Recommend that in the case of connection issues you perform a 60-60-60 reset. That is keep the reset pushed in during the whole process. Push reset, 60 secs then pull power cord, wait 60, insert power cord, wait 60. Release. That should clear the nvm and pull updated firmware down. With luck less than an hour and you'll be good to go. Mine just took 20 to come up.

Two out of three SS on my Lan had been factory default reset as I had no idea there was a problem with the VF network... see prior rant!

All devices are connecting properly today. I also monitored the download (tcpdump) as it updated the firmware which took a couple of minutes on a VDSL connection.

Once again VF CS have no idea what they're talking about with regard to how these things work!

Thought I'd close off this thread as I started it.

The issue was with the Vodafone server that provides the sure signal firmware being down.

The units came back up once the Vodafone server was back on. (after a 40 second hold on the reset button)

Cheers
Mac
