if your just using it as an access point you shoudlnt need the WAN port, just a standard lan should work.

have used my old spark modem as an access point in the bedroom just using Lan ports. i just made sure everything else on the device was turned off, except the wifi.

This will not work because they don't have a router. They have a PC plugged directly into the cable modem with a public IP on it.

But you've already said none have WAN ports which means they won't work.

they will.. its a normal 100mbit lan port of the modem you can split it using other router like hub for wire and wireless

believe me it works fine.. you dont get the features you get with the wan port is all. dchp firewall. etc

not sure if the cable modem has a fix ip or a dhcp server on it as well though ,. helps if it did have one though

Please read the posts above. It's very clear you have no understanding at all how the cable modem works.

The cable modem is a layer 2 bridge. It IS NOT a router and NOES NOT do DHCP or hand out an IP address. The PC plugged into the cable modem and will have a public IP address configured on the NIC.

You need a router with WAN port to handle DHCP and NAT. None of your ADSL devices will do this.

The "stupid cable modem" does not have a DHCP server, It requires a connected device with a manually assigned IP address to do the NAT and relay the connection via any other medium.

seems to be people saying it works on web.

also another way is to use the usb but that would be slower throughput
