Well based on those quotes earlier, it looks like your "answer" is incorrect.

Having a look through that whole act it doesn't seem to provide any exceptions for someones service provider to send automated messages about promotions etc.

I have to say i get highly annoyed with them.
"Vodafone is upgrading your cell tower soon" bla bla bla

Its annoying because I must be on the list of every cell tower in hawkes bay - i move around alot.

And they come from "Vodafone" - not a number so you cant reply. And calling 777 is a customer inconvenience that just shouldnt have to happen. They should come from a number and you should be able to reply stop to them.

If the answer is to call 777, then thats clearly a problem vodafone needs to fix.
Plain and simple.

That's a service message, if we didn't tell you about something affecting your area, you would say we've breached T&Cs.

We do try to schedule these at reasonable times.

@tardtasticx you can complain all you want to @JohnR and nothing will change. He's not in charge of marketing, so things won't be changed unless some users lay complaints about the lack of unsubscribe features through the same medium. And I somehow think no one will actually go through the trouble.
