Thanks for all the good advice. Last week our connection suddenly dropped from syncing at 2Mbps to syncing at 0.41 Mbps, which it does reliably on every reboot. (and is slightly faster than a good dial up connection). Have called Vodafone, they've looked electronically and are now sending a tech out to look at the line (I presume a Chorus tech). We'll see how that goes.

Apparently a line fault (fixed), but still only back to 2Mbps.

Apparently the phone comes from a breakout box up the road, but the ADSL from the exchange 2-3km away. The phone lines have a coil on them, I want to say booster but that's not what he said, but it's gone out of my head. They can be removed which might help a bit, but that's apparently "grooming" and not permitted for some reason without approval.

Sounds like they have a lot of problems with lines down our road, so thinking about what the process is to get them to run new ones. Sounds like the process to do that is to complain to your local MP, as complaining to Chorus sounds unlikely to have much impact. Anyone have thoughts on that?

The Coil on the line is not good for ADSL signal and the speed you are getting is well above the regulated speed,

if you have a coil on your line, ild be impressed with what you have.

My line with a coil on it was 64/64 when it would even sync.

Removal of the coil jumped to 3.5/0.8.

The chances of them being removed is kinda rare, and fully rerunning the lines is just an insane idea.

OK, I'll wait and see what they do, and then I guess I'll look at wireless if I'm really getting no progress. Spark sent a letter recently saying we now have fixed 4G available in our area. I presume that'll go real slow when summer hits and the holiday makers come, but otherwise probably would meet our needs. Main issue is download limits - so you can't get an unlimited plan on wireless at present.

might be better off keeping two connections, one for bulk downloads and one for everything else.

Still can push a good 500+GB a month over 2mbit That will likely hold you.
