langers1972: I'm looking at switching away from HFC too but am not sure which provider to move to. The 1/2 price offer for 6 months from MyRepublic is tempting but the MR thread has some less than positive feedback so can anyone add any words of wisdom? I'm in Kapiti so choices are slightly limited

Assuming you can get fibre at your place, pretty much any other major ISP apart from Vodafone and Flip will sell it to you.
Try looking at: Spark, orcon, bigpipe, slingshot, 2degrees.

Try looking at: Spark, orcon, bigpipe, slingshot, 2degrees.

Kapiti is very limited - last time I looked all M2 companies (Orcon, Slingshot etc) didn't have a handover there, and there are very few providers overall that have a handover there. The reason? Vodafone's market share in Kapiti is massive with well over 50% of premises being on their HFC network for phone and internet. Because these big companies have such a small share of the market on copper they're clearly not seeing the demand for UFB services either.

Out of your list above the options would be Spark and 2degrees.

The Vodafone rep I talked to said that the cable network will be getting an upgrade of up to 1000MBs at the end of the year where the current network is 100MBs. UFB is sitting at 200 max.

Any advice from Vodafone Cable and Fibre users?

Get fibre with 2degrees, BigPipe, MyRepublic, Orcon, Slingshot, Spark (in alphabetical order, no preference).

Sideface: HFC cable has had endless problems over the last 12 months, which have been half-fixed - see the Krapi Cable Congestion thread and weep.

This. I cannot stress it enough. I have some good friends at Vodafone but the service being provided is absolutely horrendous.

People are good but the company does not care enough for its customers.

I agree. John and others do a pretty good job on here but they shouldn't be the only ones carrying the company and doing all the simple accounts-type-stuff that they do.

Me too.

Vodafone mobile = okay, not quite as good as it used to be, but still okay.

Vodafone ex TCL = not good. I doubt it would happen but I wonder if their services would improve if they were split off into a separate company again? Yes, I know huge sums of money would be involved. But I wonder if customers would see improved levels of service;and the end of darned outsourcing of calls to Manila - the number of complaints about that call centre on their page is shocking, yet they still persist in using them. I wonder if Russell Stanners reads the comments on that FB page? I suspect not.

No fibre in Karori where I live, and last time I looked no timetable for installation. Vodafone is the only good broadband option, when it works well. It was bad but now it's pretty good most of the time.

But certainly customer service isn't great. They cut off my broadband because I didn't pay my bill for a month (mix up at my end, I thought my wife was paying, she thought I was paying) it's a bit of a story, but the bottom line is they didn't contact me to say the bill was overdue, they just cut it off. I rang Manila and paid the bill, they re-instated it, all good, but the bureaucracy was bad. I've had 15 years with TCL/Vodafone, one missed payment and boom!

Also, why can't I add a mobile to the same bill as the broadband?

This is interesting - a friend is on Vodafone cable. She got a card left in her door saying a Vodafone sales-guy has this special offer to move on to UFB. Two issues:
* The card lists advantages of UFB over xDSL. Did the guy even know she is on cable?
* People in this forum say that Vodafone don't offer UFB where they already have fiber. Also, Spark and Vodafone web sites both say UFB is not available - although she did say someone has been digging the street lately.

Thoughts?

Vodafone have decided to confuse things and refer to their old cable products as UFB. I know someone that got pretty far thru the install process before finding that out and had a hell of a time cancelling it.

that fibre might be laid in the street but its not available yet as they havent finished other stuff relating to it yet. keep checking :)

pretty sure vodafones stance is still no UFB where there is cable
