I can't seem to exceed 50kBps until 2-3AM, and even then speeds are nothing like the 400-500kBps they should be.

Out of curiosity, what're your pings like to telstra.com.au, optusnet.com.au and internode.on.net?

I don't agree with the logic here. If the International Bandwidth is insufficient, it would affect all kinds of traffic equally, which is what appears to be happening.

It is possible that he just doesn't notice an overall slowdown. TBH, I only do when I go to pages with many images and/or flash.

Today is the first time in a long time that I've done an international speed test, and I'm also getting only 1Mbps. National to both Auckland and Wellington is over 7Mbps, but anything international is only 1Mbps. Sure would love to know what is happening.

Me too.

It would be interesting as the tests that I've done here are rating around the 6MBPS speed for both speedtest.net and downloads from cnet download.com.

Though I'm not with xnet :)

In fact, it's the worst since the Xnet International Meltdown last November:

Has the influx of new Fusion customers soaked up all our bandwidth so that we are back to the predicament we were in during November?

Or has there been a link failure somewhere???

Bit of both, as far as I can tell. Lack of bandwidth for slowness. Link failure / awful routing for the high pings to Australia.

Anything over ALTER.NET to Australia pings downright ridiculously. I specifically asked for pings to internode.on.net with the others because it was being routed over ANC, and pinging at 60ms. That's obviously no longer the case.

Really, the onset of Naked DSL has really ruined WxC service. Waiting times are abysmal (even a couple of employees are saying they're unacceptable) and speeds are pathetic (how hard is it to put in an order for more bandwidth for the next month?)

Incidently the slowest thing, by far, to load on this page was the (Overseas hosted) speedtest.net images.

I have also noticed p2p slowness, even on torrents with good seed to leach ratios. And yes my config is good and im on the Flood plan. Speed fluctates alot but does not seem to be able to get above 100kb/s - often with upload speed exceeding download speed by a significant amount.

Because there is no particularly effective or standardised mechanism for putting geographical topology into routing protocols. Verizon has decided the best path to that particular network is via Hong Kong or Singapore; and will route it that way. This is possibly because the network in question does not peer with or purchase transit from VzB in Australia; but does peer with or purchase transit through some other peering partner in Asia.
