Makes me shudder when I read this post upgrading to 200/20 next week and my monthly bill reduced to $70 pm for two years. Can't fault my existing 50/10 on the HFC network. Yes I get 10MB/s on the uplink since changing to dynamic IP.

That's discouraging as I was thinking of doing the same. Maybe I will wait till real fibre appears and then take advantage of much faster upload speeds so backing up to cloud services becomes much more usable.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

It's not too late to cancel.

Your old cable connection is worth the extra cost. (and you will avoid a 24-month contract with a high early cancellation fee).

(I've been on 50/2, 100/10, 130/10 cable and now 200/20 FibreX - I'm considering going back to 100/10 cable, if I can)

Can you tell us whereabouts you are located? Do you think it's a "downgrade" in all locations, or are some locations having more problems than others?

If speed tests are faster, why are they meaningless?

Has Vodafone been able to give you any indication of when the situation is likely to improve?

<snip>

I am in Island Bay, on the notoriously troublesome node WKH.

I can't comment on other areas, but there have been problems in Christchurch.

Speed tests to VF servers are almost always 200/20Mbps. (speed testing traffic gets priority)

Real-world speeds are typically much slower - always below 100Mbps (except at 4am!), and usually well below 50 Mbps.

Typically 20 Mbps during peak periods.

Many outages.

Here are my downstream speeds from an ACSData server in Auckland, charted by Time of Day, for the past week:

I was getting much better performance on my old 100/10 cable connection - esp international speeds - and fewer outages.

VF say that they will be upgrading their node software soon.

I suggest that you upgrade to cable 100/10 (if you can), rather than to "FibreX".

Thanks for these details, if what you say applies to all locations where "FibreX" is available, then I guess Vodafone would not allow any new installations until the problems have been fixed? It's a pity that you've experienced these problems and I hope they can be ironed out soon. I've had pretty good service from Vodafone for several years so I'm not ready to jump ship yet!

there was a year long thread last year about the horrid performance and they still continued to deny it and sign on new customers, they are not going to change
