coffeebaron: Mine was originally an 025 xxx xxx early / mid 90's then became a BellSouth 021 xxx xxx a few years later.
Pretty sure mine followed the same progression. Half the time when I'm rattling off the number, people expectantly wait for more digits. :-p
I have an 021 xxx xxx number. Only consists of 3's 6's and 9's with a single 0 so everything is a multiple of 3. Easy to remember. Got it from being a staff member there. Was given out to me when I joined.
For the hassle of selling my 9 digit number, let alone it's value, I wouldn't even consider doing it for $100 even if I didn't want it any more.
I think your best bet is to call VF. I'll be surprised if you can do better.
coffeebaron: Slowly but surely all was migrated over. Alas the mis-named 0274 network came in to being.
There was never an 0274 network.. that was a transfer from vodafone number.. so if someone had 021 123 456 they could keep that with 027 4 123 456..
I worked there at the time.. we had so many people asking to change from the 0275 or 0276 network to go onto the 0274 network like their mates.. FFS😡 lol..

Well, I have been in IT and involved in telecomunnications a long time and I never knew that, so the chances of other people with even less knowledge knowing is slim. Your agnst seems misplaced honestly.

I believe it was primarily for those customers moving off the 025 network, 027 4xx xxxx was reserved for their number. I still have a vague recollection of their ads explaining the 025 to 0274 change and I think there was even a voice recording if you called a persons old 025 number informing you to dial 0274 etc. So no wonder people started naming it the 0274 network!
As for Vodafone - I think Telecom and Bellsouth may have had some kind of agreement for a while to reserve numbers so that someone on 025 123 456 could change to 021 123 456 and vice versa. Not 100% sure on this one though, or it may have just been Bellsouth that reserved 021 3, 021 4, 021 9 ranges, as these were the main 025 ranges originally used.

coffeebaron:
FYI https://www.computerworld.co.nz/article/505243/telecom_gets_set_cdma_network/
"Telecom mobile general manager Mohan Jesudason says the new network will allow Telecom to “transition seamlessly to 3G”, (third-generation cellular networks) where the long-term plan is to move through CDMA3x (384kbit/s data speed) to 3G-strength CDMA2000 (2Mbit/s) over an unspecified time frame. That 3G speed is enough for full motion video, fully interactive entertainment and Bluetooth applications."
You know something in fundamentally flawed when they release a 200M network and they are saying sometime in the future (Before it is released) we may have up to the speed of 3G.
Wow....

Kind of a side question, but why is Vodafone the only one to issue the 9 digit (total length obviously) mobile numbers? 2degrees has 022 and Spark has 027, what is stopping them from issuing 022123456 or 027123456?
Simple. With a nine digit combination, there are only a million possible numbers, where as 10 digits gives you 10 million numbers. Spark have more than 1 million mobile numbers, so nine digit numbers wouldn't cover all connected devices.
Skinny (Spark) and Vodafone also issue 11 digit mobile numbers.

And for the youngens in the thread, there was a time (31 March 2007 to be precise) when number portability wasn't a thing in New Zealand. If you wanted to switch between (then) Telecom and Vodafone (or visa versa), you had to change your prefix between 021 and 025/027. As a rule of thumb both networks held the six digit number on the other network to make the switch between networks easier.
I got a new 6/9 digit number when work gave me a phone, and I don't think it was re-used. That was only a few months back.
I think it's a case of being a post-paid customer, possibly only on business accounts.
I remember my Dad's old mobile was 025 4XX XXX, it became 027 44X XXXX, so it wasn't just for Vodafone migrations (he stayed on Telecom).
Seems silly that Telecom couldn't just keep the 025 numbers when they moved to CDMA
