And yet vodafone supplies these items .... there must be a legit seller somewhere now VF dont sell direct having just EOL them all.

Vodafone supplies units that only work in a certain range of band / frequency and don't cause interference back onto cell sites

while it is true VF dont supply that exact make / model they do supply Sure Signal Devices in the $199 and $1000 range. The $1000 is gone - EOL. The others will be back again Mid July. In the mean time my client will either have to fork out over $1700 to the single source provider of the authorized 3rd party devices or will remain stiff out of luck. Telecom boosters are available. For a business this is becoming a no brainier - and not in VF's favour. :(

True. If it was my business I'd be looking for someone who understood the difference between a femtocell and an illegal RF device. It's a no brainer.

An rbi connection uses a yagi antennae(same as boosters) run to a router which then retransmits for connection using rj45 based physical or 2.4 / 5 8 wireless. It then listens on that frequency and retransmits to the tower on one of several frequencies

A mobile booster uses a yagi antennae (normally) run to a device which retransmits on a frequency. It also listens on that frequency and retransmits to tower on one of several frequencies.

The only difference in many cases is the transmission and retransmission freqs used.

Some equipment varies from this description. Some doesnt.

The rbi has to amplify the signal to get it back to the tower which is why in many setups we use 12- 15db yagi and not omni pole antennae or other devices. Internet connections are two way like phone signal. I dont care if its rf amp or black magic. In the end antennae to box retransmits to phone ..recollects and retransmits making the signal strong enough to be heard both ways. Similar paradigm talking to similar equipment.

And its this sort of miss information that leads to the meme of "it professionals"

Sorry nunz, you have some solid knowledge. But how all this works is a little over the head.

For most IT professionals ... of which I am one ... a physical device like an rbi modem or a booster is a black box and we dont care or need to care how they work any more than i care how a mouse or keyboard works. Its not required in 99.99% of the work i do.

Ditto what happens at an exchange. I care less how dslam works or how to debug the sine wave signal on an electrical current. Its outside my paygrade and not required.

What i do care about is the parts i need to know like can my client get 700-900 or 1800 or 2100 signal and do they need 3g, 4g or just voice. Occaisionally i get asked about stuff like boosters and when i run into a problem i ask Vf or spark and when the folks on the other end know less than i do i might ask here.. like idid.

If i remember correctly i asked on the op if anyone knew how to get legit equipment to solve this issue.

What i dont need is people who are highly knowledgeable in a specific area peeing on me in public for asking a question on something i need to find out. Thats arrogant bs and happens far too often in these discussions.

I could be arrogant back and ask about statically declared objects under java on an as400 for instantiating a lotus notes session across multible db connections and the process to debug any resulting memory leaks. I could then say that person is not an it professional as they cant answer that question or dont know about c connections to statically memory linked dlls.

But if i did that I'd be acting like a right todger and completely failing to understand an it professional is not defined bytheir high end knowledge of an rf amp vs a 3g modem / router to the exclusion of all else.

An IT professional asks questions when they run into a soecific problem.
An it todger pees on those who ask questions.

Heres what the op was .. just in case you forgot. Me asking if anyone knows where legit stuff is. And sharing that a site is virused. All the off track stuff is by people like you.

Does anyone have any experience of these folks and does anyone know a truely legit place in NZ selling boosters. Vodafone are out of Home and Enterprise boosters they can sell directly.

Anyone from Vodafone know if these folks really sell authorized gear? Do they actually sell gear or is it a scam. THey are paypal registered - but not verified.

Vodafone / Spark / 2Degrees - you may want to investigate their use of your branding / logos.

Also watch Trademe quite often they are listed for sale

Thanks. Will do. The big $1000 unit wont be back. Its just the next lot arent due until mid july ... which is better than what were originally told..which was they were not selling any more.

The difference between a passive (antenna only) and an active (antenna and powered booster) is like using a hose. If you squeeze the hose end or put on one of those adjustable spray ends, then you can adjust the flow of water coming out and make it go further. This is like using an antenna kit only to "boost" the modem signal, either with an inductive pad or direct connection to phone / mobile modem. This is can be class as "passive boosting" and is perfectly legal and ok to do.

Active boosting with an antenna connecting to booster (or internal antenna in booster), connecting to mobile device is like connecting a water blaster to the hose. Non approved devices are strictly forbidden and you can get in to a lot of trouble.

Difference between a booster and repeater? The booster connects directly to the device, either by direct or inductive connection. A repeater takes the outside signal and rebroadcasts to the target area.
