frankly I feel I pay for the content and should be able to watch it on my iPhone or whatever, whenever I like. All in all though very happy with the new MySkyHDi and happy that I now also have a dish... so might be able to in due course find a Dreambox or equivalent product that will give me some content portability.

Good luck with that wish. The issue is content rights. Studios and Channel providers don't like copies of content floating around. Movie studios are particuarly oppressive over such things.

One can always hope... I know what you say is correct, but that doesnt make the way things are right. I dont want to rip the studio off at all, or distribute content, but I do want the flexibility to watch it on the go given my lifestyle and the amount of time I spend travelling with work. One 'move' from MySkHDi to one other device for example would do me fine. Given what is happening with movies etc on itunes I would have thought that this has to happen sooner or later.

What you want to do is unfortunately in breach of NZ's brand new copyright laws that prevent format shifting of video content. Therein lies a fundmental issues preventing anybody from allowing this to happen both here and in many other countries where content owners have effectively been allowed to write the laws..

OT and Interestingly enough..

Since Apple has launched iTunes movies, and in essence it allows you to purchase or rent movies and a copy is synced to your iPod so that you can watch it there too... isn't that format/platform shifting?

Internet is my backyard...

Interesting.. Possibly... But I assume it is tied to your Ipod/Apple TV and cannot be viewed on any other device.

I too have had digital installed this week and i must say its much better (no ghostly horizontal lines).
While the guy was installing it he noted that my signal was over 64% and that he had to lower it as it might damage my hardware, any truth to this?

Signal level too loud (or too quiet) can affect Cable Modem performance. The signal level won't usually affect Digital TV performance (unless its too low..) If the signal is too high it can affect RF output into the TV.
